G2 Esports vs Complexity Gaming

  • When: Friday, January 28 – 15:00 CET

PGL Major Stockholm 2021 finalists, G2 Esports, will clash with Complexity on Friday in what promises to be an exciting affair between two squads who enter the 2022 season with new-look rosters. But despite the heavy roster changes both squads went through, the sportsbooks believe that the balance of power has remained the same.

G2 Esports enter the 2022 season with Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov as the new starting AWPer, and Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen as the new IGL, who took over for Nemanja “nexa” Isaković. Very good acquisitions on paper, now let’s wait and see whether G2 roster can live up to the expectations. Still, we expect some instability early on.

The same can be said for Complexity Gaming, which completely rebuilt its CS:GO division. The North American esports organization signed the former Extra Salt core in Johnny “JT” Theodosiou, Justin “FaNg” Coakley, and Ricky “floppy” Kemery alongside Michael “Grim” Wince and Paytyn “junior” Johnson.

Priced as high as +275 on most sportsbooks, Complexity are expected to struggle, which makes sense, considering they’re facing a stronger version of a team that made it to the finals of the previous Major. Still, with all the roster changes G2 will have to go through an adjusting period, which will likely see them struggle a bit for at least a couple of weeks.

G2 Esports should win since they’re still individual much stronger. But Complexity have enough talent to make something happen and keep it close.

Prediction: Complexity +4.5 rounds

Ninjas in Pyjamas vs BIG

  • When: Friday, January 28 – 16:00 CET

Ninjas in Pyjamas and BIG are priced at even money for this match, which sounds right because NiP are without their star player Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, who is expected to remain sidelined due to illness. In his place, NiP will field Love “phzy” Smidebrant, who is a noticeable downgrade, suggesting NiP won’t be as strong at the tournament as many expected them to be.

Admittedly, NiP still have a solid roster, but without a dedicated AWPer such as dev1ce, they will struggle against top teams. And we wouldn’t be surprised if NiP fell at the first hurdle.

BIG enter BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2022 following a solid season, granted the German squad failed to achieve anything noteworthy, especially towards the end of the year. The German squad could only manage a top-19th place finish at the PGL Major Stockholm and got eliminated in ninth-12th place at the Intel Extreme Masters XVI – Winter.

NiP would defeat BIG with ease at full strength, but their chances are much slimmer without an AWPer and in-game leader. On a more positive note, NiP are 4-0 against BIG in the head-to-head since May, with an 8-2 map difference, but there’s more to this record than meets the eye.

Most of those wins came when BIG was rebuilding its CS:GO roster and were going through a rough period with roster stability and results. But things have improved since for the German squad, and they now look like a team that can be competitive at the highest level.

That’s not to say that we expect BIG to go all the way, but they’re talented enough to take advantage of NiP’s unfortunate situation and grab a win on Friday.

Prediction: BIG to win
