The Masters Betting Favorites

Scottie Scheffler +400
Just an absolutely incredible golfer right now. The 27 year old just continues to shine at the top of events. He won the Arnold Palmer, Players Championship, and finished second at the Texas Children’s Hospital Open. He continues to be elite, and has been great with greens in regulation, as strokes gained to tee.

Rory Mcllroy +1000s
Been a little bit of a slow start for Rory. The 34 year old from Ireland did start playing better golf in his last event at the Texas Open. Rory was great on Sunday with a 66. He hopes that is going to be a lead into a great weekend at Augusta National.

Jon Rahm +1200
The defending champion comes into the event ranked third in the world rankings. The PGA Tour fans are going to be excited to see Rahm, who recently went to the LIV Golf. Rahm will look to defend his title, with his great ability to hit the ball a mile. But, over the years, Rahm has continued to perfect his short game.

The Masters Possible Upsets

Ludvig Aberg +2800
Aberg is 9th in the world rankings, and currently 9th in the FedEx Cup rankings. The 24 year old has been great with strokes gained tee to green, but yet to win a big event. This would be a great coming out party for Aberg, and at 28/1 would be a nice upset winner.

Viktor Hovland +3500
We all know about the 6th ranked player in the world. Hovland is also seeking his first ever Masters title. Hovland has not played since the Players Championship in Mid March, and he was not great there. When the lights shine bright, Hovland always seems to find a way. He is listed at 35/1.

Dustin Johnson +3500
This is Dustin Johnson we are talking about here. Dustin is competitive enough, do not forget about him when making picks. The players on the course playing against him certainly will not. They know he has some history here at Augusta, and will be hungry for another chance.

The Masters Longshot Picks

Bryson DeChambeau +4000
Now part of the LIV, he has finished in the Top 10 in each of his last four events. None of them were titles though. DeChambeau has seen his shares of ups and downs at Augusta National. It will be interesting to see how his game has evolved, and if it is ready to take down a Masters title.

Tyrell Hatton +5500
Another member of the LIV. His last PGA Tour event was in January, before he started in February at Mayakoba. To start April, he went to Miami, and finished fourth. His best round was the middle day. His 71 on the final day could have cost him the event. Hatton will need to make sure he stays steady for four days if he wants a chance at Augusta.

Patrick Reed +6500
Captain America. You either love him or hate him. Another member of LIV, also finished in the Top 10 in Miami. Can Reed finally conquer four days and win the Masters? Reed would be a big time Longshot, at 65/1.

Dustin Johnson holds the course record, as he was -20 during the 2020 event.

Let’s look at the favorites to win the Masters plus possible upsets and the longshot licks worth going after.

2023 Masters Tournament

Jon Rahm is the defending champion, as he knocked off Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson by four strokes a season ago. The last time that won the event multiple times was Tiger Woods in 2019. When he beat Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele by a stroke, it was his fifth ever win at the Masters.

Bubba Watson was before that, as he won it for the second time in 2014.

Favorites to Win 2024 Masters:

Scottie Scheffler +400

The number one golfer in the world is the heavy favorite to win the 2024 Masters. He has never won this event, or come in as a runner up. His play so far in 2024 has been outstanding. He finished tied for second in Houston last week, which came after wins at the Arnold Palmer and Players Championship.

There are not a lot of flaws in his game right now, as he is the top strokes gained, and strokes gained tee to green on the tour. If anything, there would be some concerns with his putting. Look for Scottie to work on that during his time off and be ready to go! He would love to take the title back from Rahm, as he was the 2022 winner.

Rory Mcllroy +100

Rory is ranked second in the world, but has not gotten off to a great 2024 season. Mcllroy tied for 19th at the Players, and has not played since then. The 34 year old from Northern Ireland has been a great player off the tee so far, but his short game has killed him. He ranks 102 in strokes gained putting. That will need to improve if Mcilroy wants to win his first ever Masters. Rory finished runner up back in 2022.

Jon Rahm +1200

It will be nice to see the 29 year old from Spain again. The 2023 champion last played competitively in Hong Kong on the LIV Tour. He went three rounds and finished tied for 8th, at -10. Rahm also finished top 5 at the LIV – Jeddah event. We already know how good he is, and will have plenty of motivation to defend his title. Before he won it last season, he had not been a champion or runner up at Augusta.

Possible Upsets to win 2024 Masters:

Brooks Koepka +2000

Brooks has people right where he wants them. The 33 year old from Florida State knows exactly what is happening. People are forgetting about him, and now is his time to show the country how good of a golfer he still is. Koepka was the runner up in 2023 and also 2019. This is the year for him. At 20/1 his odds are too good to pass up for a possible upset at the 2024 Masters. Koepka finished 28th in Hong Kong to start the month of March.

Viktor Hovland +2000

The 6th ranked player in the world was red hot to finish last season. The start of 2024 has not been as successful, but the 26 year old is still an elite player. He has not played since the Players Championship in the middle of March. He finished that event at -1, and was 62nd. Hovland is another guy that has yet to win at Augusta, or finish runner up. 20/1 odds seem pretty solid for the talent Hovland will bring to the course.

Jordan Spieth +2000

The last time Jordan Spieth won the Masters was in 2015. That season he beat out Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose by 4 strokes. That win was for $1.8M. Last season, when Jon Rahm won the event, he went for $3.2. Spieth still has the talent, but will have to turn around his play quickly. He missed the cut at the Players Championship, and then also at the Valspar. Jordan is struggling off the tee. He comes into the weekend ranking right near 100th in the world in driving accuracy.

Longshot Picks for 2024 Masters:

Ludvig Aberg +2200

The 24 year old from Sweden is quietly into the Top 10 in the world. Many have forgotten about this former Texas Tech star. Will the moment be too large for Aberg? Certainly solid odds for the talent we have seen from him.

Xander Schauffele +2200

A guy that has been at or near the top of the leaderboard at Augusta National before. He was runner up in 2019, and has hung around the last several times he has played here. Schauffele is one of the most consistent golfers on the tour. At 22/1, he is well worth a wager for the winner of the 2024 Masters.

Joaquim Niemann +2200

The 25 year old from Chile is going into the Masters a little overlooked. He is 91st in the world rankings, and seems to be one of the biggest discrepancies. The man is one of the best golfers on the planet. He finished 4th at the LIV event in Hong Kong, and won at Jeddah. His form has been good, and we already know how talented he is. 22/1 odds seems plenty generous and worth a chance as a longshot.

The Masters Preview: Favorite, Upsets, and Longshot

2022 Masters Tournament Overview

Soon we will be hearing Jim Nantz say the words we all love, “hello friends.” From the pimento cheese sandwiches to the spring colors and beautiful flowers and the soft piano playing in the background, we are close to The Masters.

In surprising news, Phil Mickelson has informed Augusta and the PGA Tour that he will not be playing in this year’s tournament. This will be the first time since 1994 that Mickelson will not be participating in the tournament. Very surprising from the three-time Masters Champion.

We still have two events before The Masters, but let’s look at who could be wearing the Green Jacket on Sunday and heading to New York the next morning

Favorites

Jon Rahm +800

As he will be for most of the season, Jon Rahm comes in as the top favorite currently to win the Green Jacket this year. Currently the #1 golfer in the world, Rahm is looking for his second major heading to Augusta this year.

Rahm would be the third Spaniard to win the Green Jacket. Most recently, Sergio Garcia won The Masters in 2017. The legend of Spain and golf, Seve Ballesteros won twice at Augusta National during his career in 1980 and 1983.

Rahm is currently the #1 seed at the WGC Dell Match Play Tournament. On the season so far, Rahm has three top 10 finishes.

His best finish at Augusta in his career is a fourth-place finish in 2018. Rahm would be a very smart pick to win The Masters this year.

Rory McIlroy +1200

The window is closing for Rory McIlroy and his chances of winning the Green Jacket to complete the career grand slam. McIlroy is currently 32 years old, which is still very young, but how many more opportunities will he have to try and win The Masters?

The window is not completely closed because if you look at two players like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, both won The Masters in their mid 40s. There is still time, but with the influence of youth in the game, it may be that much harder for McIlroy.

He is currently ranked #8 in the World Golf Rankings. His fourth-place finish in 2015 is the best finish in his career at Augusta. Is this the year that McIlroy can finally chase down the dream of capturing the career grand slam?

Upsets

Will Zalatoris +3300

This would be a great pick for the week. He was the conversation of the tournament last year when he was in contention for the first three days. Zalatoris finished second for the week but gained a lot of attention after his breakout performance.

Currently ranked #29 in the world, Zalatoris has +3300 odds to win The Masters.

Sam Burns +4000

Last week’s winner at The Valspar currently has +4000 odds to win The Masters. In year’s past, first-time players at Augusta National typically have good luck. Burns is a four-time PGA Tour winner and will be making his Masters debut this year.

Longshot

Tiger Woods +6000

Tiger Woods has not played a competitive round of golf since the PNC Championship in December of 2021. Woods is trying to come back from the car accident over a year ago. He has not said one way or the other about playing in the tournament this year, but we do know he will be at the tournament and attending the champions’ dinner.

Woods won the tournament in 2019, creating one of the greatest moments the game has ever seen. Winning The Masters this year for Woods would be the longest shot of them all, but he still has better odds than quite a bit of the field. Woods has won The Masters five times in his career.
