Top Contenders

Good Magic

If you are looking for a horse with a good pedigree, look no further than the son of Curlin, a former winner of the Preakness Stakes and over $10 Million in career earnings. Good magic broke his maiden at the third attempt, winning the Breeders Cup Juvenile G1 after placing second in his previous two races. His next race is most likely to be at Gulfstream Park in the Fountain of Youth G2, where he will almost certainly be the big favorite.

Solomini

You can always count on a Bob Baffert trained horse being among those most talked about 3-year old’s, and that is certainly the case with Solomini. Solomini is the sibling of Good Magic, and while he has broken his maiden at the first time of asking, he followed that up with a trio of second-place finishes in G1 races, including being runner-up to his sibling at the Breeders Cup Juvenile. He will likely get the chance to get his second career win at the San Felipe Stakes G2 at Santa Anita on March 10.

Bolt D’Oro

Another horse with some real pedigree is Bolt D’Oro, son of Medaglia D’Oro, a former Breeders Cup Classic winner. Bolt D’Oro won the first 3 races of his 2-year old season before coming in 3rd at the Breeders Cup Juvenile behind the other two horses on our list here. There is a better than average chance that he will also be heading to Santa Anita for the San Felipe Stakes to kick off his 3-year old season.

Catholic Boy

With 3 wins out of 4, Catholic Boy had a very successful season as a 2-year old, although it can be argued that he looked better on turf than on the dirt. All of his wins came at a lower grade level, too, with his lone appearance in a G1 race being a 4th place finish at the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. Catholic Boy is one of the Horse Racing Betting favorites to win it all in 2018. If you want to get a look at this horse, you can catch him in the Sam S. Davis G3, which is set to go on Saturday, February 10 at Tampa Bay Downs. Definitely worth a little flutter in that one.

Avery Island

This is a horse that got off to a rocky start, finishing 7th in the first race of his career. He followed that up with a pair of firsts and a second, before starting 2018 with a win at the Withers G3 at Aqueduct last week. He will step up to G2 for his next race, which will either be the Fountain of Youth or the Tampa Bay Derby.
