Gulfstream Park Picks for Wednesday, June 24

Race 3 – 1:02 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $12,500 Claiming

Drop Kick has a shot to upset morning line chalks Crea’s Brooklyn Law and Dizzy Gillespie. The Sandra Matier trained 5-year-old horse won his last race by a neck. That was at $8,000 claiming. But it was at this mile distance. Drop Kick has a 1-2-1 record from 5 races at a mile. We like the Power Broker sired runner to make it two wins in a row.

Crea’s Brooklyn Law runs first time for trainer Fausto Gutierrez. Gutierrez saddles 20% winners on dirt while Law has the ability to be much closer than the 5-year-old gelding was in its last. Also, Fausto drops the second choice from $16,000 claimers to this $12,500 claiming race.

Dizzy Gillespie is 8/5 on the morning line. That’s the first reason to not back this one to win. The other reason? Gillespie has finished third in 4 straight. That includes finishing third at this level twice. We won’t back to win, but Dizzy’s a must use in the exotics.

  • Win: Drop Kick
  • Place: Crea’s Brooklyn Law
  • Show: Dizzy Gillespie

Race 4  – 1:34 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf – $25,000 Claiming

6/1 on the morning line Souper Courage could surprise. The Giant’s Causeway sired 4-year-old gelding ran great to finish second in a mile race over the slop on May 25. Although Courage did well enough to get the place money, the Bobby Dibona trained runner prefers the sod. Expect Samy Camacho to have this one in a position for the victory as they turn for home.

The Green Mo’ster takes a major drop in class from $40,000 claiming to this $25,000 event. Mo’ster shows an awesome work on June 11. We like the 9/2 morning line to win, but, let’s not kid ourselves, class players will pound this one at the windows. Still, we can’t leave from the exacta.

Front running Sovereign Warrior could hang on for the show money. There’s other speed in this. Warrior breaks from post-position 1, though, and drops from $30,000 claiming. We’re using.

  • Win: Souper Courage
  • Place: Green Mo’ster
  • Show: Sovereign Warrior

Race 9 – 4:13 pm ET – 5 Furlongs Turf – $16,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

There is a ton of speed in this, which is why our win money will be on True Heiress. Don’t worry about the jump in class. Jockey J. Trejos kept her too far off the pace in the last race. She rallied beautifully but had to make up too much ground to do any better than third. Look two races back to get an idea of how jockey Alberto Burgos figures to ride her on Wednesday. Heiress could stalk and then pounce.

Hera cuts back in distance from a mile race to this 5 furlong event. She’s got enough speed to stay within striking distance while jockey Paco Lopez has won at 17% during this meet. That’s a great percentage for a jockey that’s had over 620 mounts.

Happy Loudon could be coming up to a decent race. The 15/1 morning line third place choice broke her maiden with an awesome speed rating, bounced in its first against winners, and then ran well in a $25,000 optional claimer. Loudon could win this. So, consider for all slots on your exotic tix.

  • Win: True Heiress
  • Place: Hera
  • Show: Happy Loudon
