Castellano finished seventh aboard Gunnevera in the Kentucky Derby while Smith rode Girvin to a 13th-place finish. For the Preakness Stakes, Castellano, who rides a number of horses for New York-based trainer Chad Brown, will be aboard Cloud Computing this coming weekend.Alex Sano, who assists his trainer-father Antonio Sano with Gunnevera, says they understand Castellano’s loyalty to Brown, but they’re happy to have Smith commit to Gunnevera, a horse he’s never ridden. Kelly says Smith is as good as any rider at knowing when to make race-altering moves.“I don’t think we could go to anybody who’s better at judging pace,” Kelly said.
