MLB Betting News & Rumors: Evan Longoria Likely Out for 4-6 Weeks, Kyle Lewis Still Recovering

Written by on June 8, 2021

We are at the stage of the MLB season where things often go through a little bit of a lull. It’s not so surprising that this happens, as maintaining a high level of interest and intensity through a 162-game season is ridiculously tough to do. A lot of us focus on the first couple of months of the season to see how teams come out, before getting psyched up again once we get into the second half of the season and start edging towards the playoffs. No matter when you pay attention, though, there is always something going on in the MLB, so let’s take a look at what made the headlines over the past week or so. With all that in mind, let’s get right to it so you can keep betting against their MLB odds.

Latest 2021 MLB Betting News & Rumors June 1st Edition

We saw a little bit of history made over the weekend, with Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa moving into 2nd place all-time with his 2,764th career victory. It is an amazing record, especially when you consider that the 76-year-old manager had been enjoying retirement for a decade before coming back to lead the White Sox. What makes the story even better is that the win that took him in to 2nd actually meant something, as the White Sox continue to maintain a 4-game lead atop the AL Central. The hiring of La Russa is beginning to look like a stroke of genius.

The San Francisco Giants are sitting atop the NL West with a 2-game lead, but not everything is sunshine and roses by the bay. Evan Longoria was taken out of the game against the Cubs over the weekend after colling with shortstop Brandon Crawford. Any hopes that the injury might not be serious were quickly dashed when it was revealed that Longoria had suffered a dislocated shoulder. The nature of the injury makes it difficult for the team to deliver an accurate timetable for return, but the expectation is that he will likely miss 4-6 weeks.

We are also still waiting for more news on the injury to Kyle Lewis of the Seattle Mariners almost a week after he suffered a knee injury. Initial reports seemed to suggest that he had suffered a torn meniscus, but there may be more to it than that, perhaps because the 25-year-old had had several knee issues since coming into the league. While there are no concrete updates as of yet, Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto took to local radio to suggest that while they hoped to have Lewis back before the end of the season, things were not looking particularly promising.

It has always been known that some pitchers use substances on the ball to give them an edge, but it appears that the league is about to crack down on that, as reports of increased usage arises. There are some people who are of the belief that the use of foreign substances at this current time is rampant, which is perhaps why the MLB is now looking at taking a stronger stance. Pitcher may be subject to random checks and searches from umpires during the game, with the new plan set to go into action in the next week to 10 days.
