Always a ton of hype around the interleague Subway Series, and the first installment is Monday night from Yankee Stadium as the Mets visit the Bronx. This series has ended up tied three of the past five years. The Yankees are favored on the MLB Lines for Monday.

Why Bet on NY Mets?

The Mets have won four of five and took a series over Colorado with a 6-1 home win Sunday. Noah Syndergaard tossed seven innings of one-hit ball. Amed Rosario went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, a stolen base and a walk. Todd Frazier went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBIs. The 33-year-old has gotten off to a blistering start this month, hitting .364 (8-for-22) with three homers across eight games so far.

The Mets are without second baseman and former Yankee Robinson Cano. He is to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse or Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday. Cano was placed on the injured list again earlier Sunday with a left quad strain, but he is close to game-ready. He will be eligible for activation on June 16. Jeff McNeil and Adeiny Hechavarria will handle second base while Cano is out.

It’s lefty Jason Vargas on the mound for the Mets. Vargas (2-3) picked up the win in Wednesday’s 7-0 victory over the Giants, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out eight in his eighth career shutout. After Joe Panik led off the game with a double, Vargas didn’t allow a runner into scoring position the rest of the night. The veteran lefty lowered his ERA nearly a full run to 3.57 while boosting his K:BB to 37:19 through 45.1 innings.

On April 13, Vargas owned a 14.21 ERA, needing a vote of confidence from Mets officials to stay in the rotation. Since that time, he’s posted a 1.85 ERA in seven starts, including his eighth career shutout last time out against the Giants.

Why Bet on NY Yankees?

The Yankees are 7-3 in the last 10 and 11-5 in the last 16G vs. the Mets (since 9/19/15). The last 11 games in the series have been decided by 3 runs or fewer. The Yankees are 32-20 against New York-NL since 2009 and 69-49 all-time.

The Yanks have lost five of seven but avoided a sweep over the weekend in Cleveland with a 7-6 win in 10 innings. Aaron Hicks went 1-for-5 with a go-ahead RBI double in the 10th inning. The Yankees blew an early 5-0 lead and a late 6-5 lead to send this one to extra innings. Hicks has started to pick it up of late, recording hits in six of his last 10 games. He has picked up five extra-base hits in that space, whacking three home runs and a pair of doubles.

Mets vs Yankees should be an easy victory for the Bronx Bombers

Aroldis Chapman blew the save by allowing a game-tying unearned run in the ninth inning of Sunday’s 10-inning win. He allowed a leadoff single to Jose Ramirez and a walk to Roberto Perez to put the tying run in scoring position. Two outs later, Francisco Lindor grounded to short on what should have been the final play of the game, but Didi Gregorius — who had entered as a defensive replacement — proceeded to boot that grounder, with the ball squirting far enough away for Ramirez to race on home from second. Chapman is now 18-for-20 in save chances with a 1.40 ERA and 35/8 K/BB ratio in 25 2/3 frames.

It’s Masahiro Tanaka (3-5, 3.42) for the Yanks as he will return from the paternity list. Tanaka had been scheduled to start Sunday but remained in New York with his wife and newborn daughter.

Tanaka allowed four runs over six innings as he took the loss in Toronto last Tuesday. It was really just a bad fifth inning that did Tanaka in, and it wasn’t all his fault. A missed strike call by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez seemed to unnerve Tanaka and Randal Grichuk homered later in the at-bat. Gleyber Torres also dropped a throw on what should have been a caught stealing and Freddy Galvis made it pay with a two-run shot.

Vlad Jr. added a fourth run in the frame with a two-out RBI single. While Tanaka might have deserved a better fate, he did give up two homers and struck out just two. He’s given up eight earned runs in his last 12 innings but, prior to that, had a 2.15 ERA in his previous five starts.
