They have been solid over the past 7 years under the coaching of Craig Counsell, but he bolted to the Chicago Cubs in the offseason, with Pat Murphy stepping in to take over the managing duties in Milwaukee. While Murphy has been with the team in an assistant capacity for years, he has a tough job on his hands to replicate the success that Counsell delivered. For sure, St. Louis will finish ahead of the Pirates, Cubs, and Reds. The Reds and Pirates are bad teams.
The Cardinals will finish in the top two, but they face a Milwaukee team that, at least on paper, is better than they are. It’s difficult to understand why the Cardinals offer lower odds than Milwaukee to win the NL Central.
