At +138 odds, the Mets are second choice after the Atlanta Braves to win the deep NL East. The Philadelphia Phillies are third choice.
The Braves, Phillies, and Mets all have the talent to win the division but NYM has the inside track. Neither the Braves nor Phillies can send one of three ace pitchers to the mound.
The Mets list Justin Verlander as their ace. Max Scherzer is the second ace. The third ace is Japanese League star Kodai Senga.
Not only that, but the Mets have the batting lineup to score runs. If the Mets were the chalk ahead of the Braves, we might consider a pass. But at their odds, the Mets are a terrific bet to win the division.

The LA Dodgers offer +330 odds to win the NL and make it to the World Series. No doubt, the Mets are a better play than the Dodgers.
Los Angeles’ starting rotation pales in comparison to the Mets’. The Mets are also a better play than the third choice, the Atlanta Braves.
The ATL will be a good team, but their ace, Max Fried, might not be on the level of the third starter in NYM’s rotation, Kodai Segura.
No other team in the National League should be able to hang with the Mets in a 7-game series. The Mets win the NLCS and head to the World Series.

The Mets head into the season a co-second choice along with the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series.
Although it’s easy to like the Mets more than the Dodgers to win the Fall Classic, it’s not as easy to like NYM against the favorite to win the title, the Houston Astros.
The defending champs offer +600 odds to repeat. The Stros are more of a chalk than the New York Mets. But they’re not much more of a chalk.
The difference between Houston and NYM is +100. The difference isn’t enough to back the Mets. The Stros know Verlander well.
Not only that, but Framber Valdez and Christian Javier should shut down the Mets’ lineup should the teams meet in the World Series. Of course, neither team may end up playing for the World Series trophy.
