While the start of the 2020 MLB regular season has been put on hold because of the recent coronavirus pandemic, baseball betting enthusiasts across the globe are still making preparations for the upcoming campaign and rightfully so. Let’s check the MLB Odds and World Series Odds for the New York Yankees 2020 Season.

New York Yankees Analysis Before 2020 Season Start

With that said and the New York Yankees entering the 2020 season as one of the top favorites to win this season’s World Series, let’s find out what we can expect out of the Bronx Bombers once the new season does eventually get underway.

2020 New York Yankees MLB Season Odds

New York Yankees Offensive Analysis

If nothing else, the Yankees look like a team that will be at their ball-bashing best once the 2020 regular season does get underway. After setting a new MLB record with 267 home runs in 2019, the Yankees smacked a mind-boggling 306 long balls, only to be beaten out for the new record by Minnesota’s stunning 307 last season. A whopping 14 Yankees hit at least 10 homers to set a new MLB record while seven players had at least 20 homers. Two (Gleyber Torres and Gary Sanchez) topped the 30-homer plateau with a team-high 38 and 34 respectively. Last season, Torres became the third Yankee to have multiple seasons of at least 20 homers before reaching the age of 23. The others were Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle and only DiMaggio has more career homers in his first two seasons in pinstripes.

The Yankees could use MVP contender Aaron Judge to stay healthy after he hit 27 homers in just 102 games last season and they are banking on a rebound campaign from former NL MVP winner Giancarlo Stanton after he played in just 18 games in what was a massively disappointing campaign a year ago. Torres will take over at shortstop for Didi Gregorius while his double play partner, second baseman DJ LeMahieu looks to improve on his fantastic 2019 in which he bat .318.

New York Yankees Defensive Analysis

When it comes to pitching, New York will go with a starting rotation featuring ace right-hander Gerrit Cole as the new No. 1 with fellow right-hander and Cy Young contender Luis Severino following. Veteran right-hander Masahiro Tanaka and lefties, J.A. Happ and Jordan Montgomery complete what looks like a very solid unit.

When it comes to the bullpen, New York has a lot of solid, if undervalued talent in the likes of right-handers Luis Cessa, Jonathan Holder, Tommy Kahnle, Chad Green, Adam Ottavino and lefty Zack Britton, before turning to fire-balling southpaw closer Aroldis Chapman.

New York Yankees Offseason Movements

  • Agreed to terms with RHP Gerrit Cole, RHP Luis Cessa; RHP Chad Green; RHP Jonathan Holder; OF Aaron Judge; RHP Tommy Kahnle; LHP Jordan Montgomery; LHP James Paxton; C Gary Sanchez and 3B Gio Urshela on one-year contracts.
  • Acquired 3B James Nelson and cash considerations from the Miami Marlins for LHP Stephen Tarpley.
  • Re-signed OF Brett Gardner to a one-year contract.

New York Yankees Prediction 2020 Season

New York put 30 players on the injured list for a total of 39 stints, which both set new major league marks. The Yankees lost 2,129 player games to injury and the absences of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton hurt them more than anyone cares to mention. Not only that, but New York’s outfield could be underwhelming in 2020 with scheduled 29-year-old starting left fielder Mike Tauchman batting a modest .277 with 13 homers in 87 games and 36-year-old Brett Gardner batting a paltry .251, though he did smack 28 home runs a year ago. In the end though, based on their insane amount of talent and nice mix of youth and veteran experience, if the Yankees stay healthy, they could very well live up to their odds as prohibitive favorites to win the AL Pennant and 2020 World Series.
