With the 2021 MLB regular season another week closer to its April 1 start date, it’s time to check out the latest rumors making their way around the MLB circuit. Let’s get started in my hometown where the Phillies are making moves to improve their chances of challenging for the NL Pennant. With that in mind, let’s get right to it so you can keep planning your bets and place them against their MLB odds for the upcoming season.
Latest MLB 2021 Betting News & Rumors Feb. 3rd Edition
Phillies To Sign Chase Anderson
In a mere matter of days, Philadelphia has given its starting rotation a different look by signing veteran southpaw Matt Moore to a one-year deal before announcing they also signed veteran right-hander Chase Young to another one-year deal. The 31-year-old Moore pitched for Nippon Professional Baseball’s SoftBank Hawks in Japan last year while finishing the season with a 2.65 ERA in 13 starts spanning 78 innings. The 33-year-old Anderson went 1-2 in 10 games with Toronto last season while compiling an ugly 7.22 ERA. Anderson gave up a whopping 11 home runs while issuing 10 walks in just 33.2 innings. Ouch!
Making Moves In Milwaukee
The Brewers added to their infield depth by signing 30-year-old former St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong to a two-year, $18 million deal with a third-year team option. In the event the third-year option is picked up, the total value of the deal will be $26 million. In 53 games last season, Wong hit .265 with one home run, 16 RBI and five stolen bases. While Wong’s hitting may never be elite, the slick-fielding star did manage to win his second straight Gold Glove award.
Say It Ain’t So St. Louis
Potential future Hall of Fame catcher Yadier Molina might not be back with St. Louis after 17 seasons in the bigs, all with the Cardinals. Reports say that Toronto is interested in the 38-year-old nine-time all-star and nine-time gold glove winner. Rumors say Molina wants to stay in St. Louis, but a deal hasn’t been reached yet, so we’ll see.
Rays Chasing Ozuna
The Tampa Bay Rays are reportedly going to make a play for veteran outfielder Marcell Ozuna after he batted a stupendous .338 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI in 60 games for Atlanta last season. The Braves have yet complete a deal with Ozuna after he played some phenomenal baseball last season on a one-year deal with the Braves. Why Atlanta hasn’t signed the powerful 29-year-old is beyond me, but one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and apparently, the Rays value Ozuna more than Atlanta.
Reds Sign Nicky Delmonico
The Cincinnati Reds announced on Wednesday morning that they agreed to a minor league contract with free agent outfielder and first baseman Nick Delmonico that includes an invitation to big league spring training. The 28-year-old hit a pitiful .150 in six games with the White Sox last season and have never batted better than .262 in his four-year career. Delmonico has one home run over the last two seasons, spanning just 27 big league games. Yikes!
Twins Interested In Colome
Minnesota is reportedly going after former Chicago White Sox closer Alex Colome who went 2-1 with 12 saves and a stunning 0.81 ERA in 21 appearances. Colome has 42 saves over the last two seasons and has not had an ERA higher that 2.80 in three straight seasons. Chicago’s loss would be Minnesota’s gain as the Twins would get one of baseball’s best finishers.
Twins Re-Sign Ageless Cruz
Minnesota re-signed veteran DH Nelson Cruz to a whopping #13 million one-year deal this week. The ageless 41-year-old hit .303 with a stellar 16 home runs and 33 RBI in 53 games last season after smacking at least 37 home runs in each of the previous six seasons. The six-time all-star has a stellar 417 home runs in his 16-year career and could reach the magical 500 mark in approximately two more seasons.
