San Francisco Vs Arizona MLB Free Picks

Written by on March 31, 2017

With the MLB season now just a couple of days away, fans and baseball sportswriters are all clamoring to let everyone know who their picks are for the season. After all, there is money to be made and bragging rights to be earned if you can correctly predict the division winners and postseason players before the first official cry of “Play Ball” come out of the mouth of the umpire. Over in the NL West, most people would have you believe that it will be a 2-horse race between the San Francisco Giants and the LA Dodgers, just as it was last season. The Colorado Rockies are getting a lot of dark horse love, but it may well be the Arizona Diamondbacks that end up taking the dark horse label and running with it. Opening day is not when we can truly decide whether a team will be good or bad for the remainder of the year, but if the D-Backs can come out and get a win against the MLB betting favorites to win the division, it could set the tone for the early part of the season.

Why bet on the San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants went 87-75 last season, making it into the postseason, but failing to make any kind of mark there. The starting rotation for the Giants is a good one, especially with Bumgarner and Cueto in the fold, and the addition of a legitimate closer in Mark Melancon should make them tough to score runs on. The question is whether or not that will be enough to close the gap on the Dodgers who won the division last year by 4 games. The Giants will give the ball to Madison Bumgarner on opening day, hoping that he can repeat his numbers from last season, where he went 15-9 with a 2.74 ERA.

Why bet on the Arizona Diamondbacks

Last offseason, the Diamondbacks spent a lot of money to bring in big name guys like Zack Grienke, but their investment did not pay off. Arizona went just 69-93 on the season, with most of their big-name guys failing to deliver the goods. There is a sense that some of the pressure is now off, and that if just a couple of those guys can rediscover their form, this team could prove to be a surprise package. It really does all begin with their starting rotation, which has the potential to be very good. It will be Zack Greinke who gets the start on opening day, and he will be looking to improve on his 13-7 record and 4.37 ERA from 2016.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

This game has the potential to be a fantastic pitching duel between two of the best guys in the business. It’s always tough to bet against the home team on opening day, but that is exactly what I am going to do.
