Chandler Smith

If the first few races of the season are anything to go by, then Chandler Smith very much looks like the man to beat this season. He finished 8^th in his first full season in the Truck Series, and while he disappointed in the opening race of the 2022 season, he rebounded nicely, winning in Las Vegas and landing in the top 5 in Atlanta. Whether he can maintain that pace remains to be seen, especially at the Circuit of the Americas, where he had a poor showing his first time out in 2021. Given his current form, he needs to be considered one to watch.

Tanner Gray

After two full seasons in the Truck Series, Gray has not done a ton to impress and is in fact still looking for his first career win at this level. That looks set to change this year, though, as he is off to a very good start, landing in the top 10 in all 3 races to this point in the season. You could look at his 31^st place finish at the COA last season and immediately rule him out this weekend, but when you consider the start that he has made, ignoring him may not be the best idea. That first win is coming sooner rather than later.

Ty Majeski

Majeski has bounced around a little in motor sports, but he seems committed to the Truck Series this season after a couple of years running there part-time. The decision to go all in seems to be paying off, as Majeski is off to a very solid start. That included getting his first podium finish in the Truck Series in Atlanta last weekend, and while he has not raced at the COA at this level, his early form suggests that he might be ready to challenge for the checkered flag.

Stewart Friesen

We very often see drivers deliver a breakout season at some point in their career. Friesen appeared to have that in 2019 when he finished 4^th overall in the Truck Series driver standings. He wasn’t quite able to build on that, but he looks to be back in that type of form through the opening 3 races of the 2022 season. He had a podium finish in Las Vegas and cracked the top 10 last week in Atlanta. He ran 17^th at the COA last year, but I expect better this weekend.
