2021 NBA Championship Odds Analysis March 15th Update

Written by on March 15, 2021

When it comes to wagering on a team to win a championship, bettors tend to fall into two different categories. There are those who bet right at the start of the season, or sometimes even before it begins, while other wait to see how the odds move throughout the season. Those who wait until later are aware that they may not get the odds they had hoped for, but they might feel a little bit better about putting money on a team that has shown enough over a few months of play to warrant the trust of the bettor. With the NBA season now in the second half, we are seeing the odds change regularly, so it is about time for another look at the current NBA Championship odds.

LA Lakers (+250)

The defending champions continue to stay as the favorite, but will that continue as the season progresses? They lost some ground in the race for the Western Conference over the past few weeks, as they were forced to play without Anthony Davis, who was out through injury. The latest update suggests that it may be 2 more weeks before Davis is back on the court, so how far will the Lakers fall in that time, and should they be judged harshly on their performances without one of the best players in the league? It may be enough to raise concern among some bettors who have yet to place their wagers.

Brooklyn Nets (+300)

If there is any one team that could move into the role of the favorite before the playoffs begin, it would be the Brooklyn Nets. They are on a fantastic run of form at the moment and are still in a position where they have not been able to get their big three all playing at the same time? How much better will this team be when they get Kevin Durant back from injury? While making it out of the conference is no easy task, the Nets certainly look like the class of the East right now despite the fact that they are still a game back of the Philadelphia 76ers.

LA Clippers (+500)

Much like the Lakers, the Clippers have had injury issues to their best players to deal with and are on a run of form that has seem them heading in the wrong direction. They are currently sitting down in the #4 spot in the Western Conference standings and are just 4-6 in their last 10 games. The Clippers are now 4 games out of the top spot in the West, and while that is not an insurmountable lead, they are going to have a tough time making it through the playoffs if they cannot land a higher seed.

Utah Jazz (+700)

The Utah Jazz have been the most pleasant surprise of the season and are currently siting with the best record in the NBA and the lead in the Western Conference. Whether that can continue, though, remains to be seen, as they have hit a bit of a rough patch that began just before the All-Star Break. They have gone just 5-5 in their last 10 games, but we will need to wait a little longer to see if this current trend is the sign of a bigger issue or if it’s just a temporary dip in form.
