2021 NBA Championship Odds Analysis March 29th Update

Written by on March 29, 2021

Right now, basketball fans are probably a little torn. While we are in the homestretch of the NBA regular season, with playoff spots to be decided, we are also heading towards the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament. For the purposes of this piece, we are going to set the college game aside and take another look at how the odds are shifting over in the NBA. Injuries are taking a toll on some teams, which is creating a major shakeup in the standings and the odds. Let’s now take a look at the current favorites to win the NBA title, knowing full well that things could well be different this time next week. With that in mind, let’s get right to it so you can keep betting against their NBA Championship odds.

LA Lakers (+280)

A little later this week, we are going to talk about teams who are struggling due to losing star players to injury, but we can tell you that the Lakers will be on the list. In the weeks leading up to the NBA All-Star Game, Anthony Davis went down with an injury. No sooner did he return than LeBron James went down with an ankle injury that is expected to keep him out for a few weeks. The upshot of all of this is that the Lakers have been sliding down the standings and are now 4th in the Western Conference. They are still in as the joint favorites to win it all and defend their title, but that is probably dependent on them being healthy.

Brooklyn Nets (+280)

As well as the Nets have been playing these past couple of months, they have not yet been able to oust the Philadelphia 76ers from the top spot in the Eastern Conference. They are just a game off the pace, though, and there is a certain inevitability about them eventually moving into first before we get to the start of the playoffs. One stat that is really impressive for the Nets is their record against teams with a winning record, where they are currently sitting at 16-5. That bodes well for a team looking to make a deep playoff run.

LA Clippers (+420)

Don’t look now, but the LA Clippers are on the move, which is why their odds have shortened over the past week or so. They are taking advantage of the struggling Lakers and have leapfrogged their neighbors to move into 3rd in the Western Conference. They have got there on the strength of a 5-game winning streak that has moved them to 31-16 on the season. While they have been particularly good on home court, they have done well enough away from home to be considered a legitimate threat once the postseason rolls around.

Milwaukee Bucks (+650)

Over the last couple of seasons, there has been no team better than the Bucks in regular season play, but that has not translated into success in the postseason. They have been a little off the pace from what we have been used to seeing from them this year, but perhaps that is a sign that they are saving their best for the playoffs. The Bucks have been streaky all year and after going through a great run of form, they are in a 2-game losing skid that makes us all question their ability to win on a consistent basis when those big games roll around.
