NBA 2021 Draft: Player Rankings Betting Picks

Written by on April 22, 2021

With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the world, the sports world has not been immune to the effect of this horrible virus. The NBA has had to make numerous changes to its 2021 schedule. The season didn’t start until late December, so in order to get 72 regular-season games and the playoffs in, the season will extend all the way into late July.

Because of the schedule changes, the NBA Draft, and the process surrounding it, the Draft Combine will now be held from June 21-27, and the draft itself will be held on July 29, just a few days after the completion of the 2021 NBA season. Let’s take a closer look at our NBA 2021 Draft update so you can start planning your bets against their NBA Draft odds.

This year’s NBA Draft class is said to be loaded. Many players are taking advantage of the “one and done” rule, as many of the top prospects in this year’s draft just finished their freshman season. In fact, many mock drafts and draft predictions are showing that 12-14 freshmen could potentially be lottery picks.

Cade Cunningham

As of now, it looks like the top five players in this year’s draft are all freshmen. Cade Cunningham from Oklahoma State is projected to be the first selection. He is projected to be a point guard in the NBA, and his size and athleticism will make him a hard matchup for most point guards.

Evan Mobley, Jaylen Suggs, Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga

The next four players projected to be selected are also one year out of high school. Evan Mobley from USC and Jaylen Suggs from Gonzaga both just completed their first year of college basketball. The next two projected players decided to go to the NBA’s G League to take advantage of the NBA’s new system. Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga both played for the G League’s Ignite squad last season.

Davion Mitchell

Davion Mitchell from Baylor has been the player that has shot up the draft boards. The redshirt junior started catching the eyes of NBA scouts this past season. Many looked at him as a low first-round selection. After his play during Baylor’s NCAA Championship run, Mitchell has elevated himself into a potential lottery pick, with some mock drafts having him go as high as the eighth selection.

Kai Jones

Another player that has shot up the draft boards is Kai Jones from the University of Texas. The 6’11” sophomore from Texas is seen as this year’s Patrick Williams. Williams didn’t start as a freshman for Florida State but was taken as the fourth overall selection in the 2020 draft. Jones is very skilled and athletic and can score on the inside or outside. Even though he didn’t start for the Longhorns, many see his potential and may be willing to take a chance on him. As of now, he’s projected to be a lottery selection.

Josh Giddey

Australian guard Josh Giddey is another player who seems to be rising up many draft boards. He put up huge numbers in Australia’s NBL last season. He put up better numbers than LaMelo Ball did when he was playing there. Giddey is not as quick and athletic as Ball, but many think that he’ll be able to score in the league.
