NBA Betting News and Rumors for Morant, Williams, Cooks, and Lowry

We are now in the homestretch of the NBA regular season, with the battle for playoff spots getting hotter with each passing day. The playoff seedings are taking shape, but there is still the possibility of teams rising and falling in the final few weeks of the season. Even with the focus on making it to the postseason, there are still plenty of things happening off the court that is making headlines. Some of these new pieces are going to have an impact on how things play out in the final weeks of the regular season.

With all of that in mind, let’s take a look at what’s making news in the NBA this week, something that will make you think about betting NBA during the season.

NBA News & Rumors, March 7, 2023

Ja Morant Under Investigation

There is no denying that Ja Morant is one of the best players in the business right now, but there are now some legitimate concerns about his behavior off the court. The latest incident came over the weekend where he was allegedly seen waving a gun in an Instagram live video. It now appears as though Glendale Colorado police are investigating the incident since it is illegal to handle a weapon while drinking in the state of Colorado. As it stands now, Morant is away from the team for at least 2 games, but the Grizzlies have said there is no timetable for his return, so this could be an extended absence.

Kenrich Williams Out for the Season

The Oklahoma City Thunder are under the playoff line, but they are still just a half game out of the play-in zone, so their season is certainly not dead. If they are going to make a run to get into the postseason, they are going to need to do it without Kenrich Williams in the lineup. He ruptured a ligament in his left wrist that will require surgery and have him missing the remainder of the season. The prognosis for his recovery is good, so expect to see Williams back and fully healthy next year.

Multi-Year Deal for Cooks

Things are going really well for Xavier Cooks in Australia, as he is currently playing in the NBL Finals with the Sydney Kings. The reigning NBL MVP will be heading to the states as soon as the finals are over to join the Washington Wizards, who inked him to a deal that will take him to the end of the 2023/24 season. Cooks will land on the 15-man roster as soon as he lands, as the Wizards are expect to release Jamaree Bouyea, who they currently have on a 10-day deal.

Will Lowry Play Again in the Regular Season?

Every player sees their time come to an end in professional sports, and you have to wonder if we are seeing the beginning of the end for Kyle Lowry. He has already missed 13 straight games for the Miami Heat, with head coach Erik Spoelstra refusing to comment on whether Lowry will be back on the court before the end of the season. Lowry is now 36 and has been delivering diminishing returns since moving to Miami a couple of years back. There were rumors that the Heat tried to deal him at the trade deadline, but no offers were forthcoming. Lowry has 1 year left on his deal with the Heat.
