Why Bet on Memphis?

Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant was in question for Game 3 with a bruised right hand that caused him to miss Game 2, but Morant played and played great in Game 3 with 45 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds. The Grizzlies announced about an hour before the 111-101 loss Saturday that Morant would play and be in the starting lineup.

Morant scored 22 straight points for the Grizzlies in the fourth quarter as their comeback attempt fell short. Only two other players previously scored at least 22 straight points for their team in a playoff game: LeBron James (25) in 2007 and Kobe Bryant (23) in 2010. t. The Lakers have no way of stopping Morant consistently. His points are going to come one way or another. So the Lakers dared him to take them from deep. He succeeded in the fourth quarter of Game 3. And if that leads him to take more pull-up 3’s in Game 4, the Lakers won’t complain about it.

Jaren Jackson Jr. struggled in Game 3 with 13 points and five rebounds. Jackson failed to score in the first half, and although he contributed 11 points and three rebounds in the third quarter, the Defensive Player of the Year’s final stat line was his worst since his nine-point, eight-rebound total against the Clippers at the end of March.

Grizz forward Dillon Brooks was called for a flagrant foul 2 and ejected only 17 seconds into the second half after he swiped his left hand into LeBron James’ groin area as the Los Angeles Lakers star dribbled the ball up the court. It was Brooks’ third ejection this season, matching the Boston Celtics‘ Marcus Smart and the Sacramento Kings‘ Malik Monk for the most in 2022-23, including the playoffs. Brooks will not be suspended for Game 4. He had seven points on 3-of-13 shooting in 19 minutes in Game 3.

Brooks and LeBron have had a heated series in the media. Brooks said before the postseason began that he wanted to face James in the first round so he could “knock him out right away.” After Game 2, Brooks defended his trash talk on James by saying “I don’t care, he’s old.”

Why Bet on LA Lakers?

Los Angeles led by as many as 29 points in Saturday’s game and held a 35-9 advantage after the first quarter, good for the largest first-quarter lead in NBA playoff history. The Lakers have now won 9 straight Game 3s with the series tied 1-1, passing the 1989-95 Bulls for the longest streak in NBA history.

Anthony Davis dominated Saturday with 31 points 17 17 rebounds. Davis and LeBron James put together one of the best first quarters in the team’s history, running up a 26-point lead on the Grizzlies in the first 12 minutes. Davis compiled eight points and eight rebounds in the first quarter.

“Didn’t like my performance in Game 2,” Davis said afterward. “And I just had to be better overall. The aggressiveness picked up, wasn’t waiting for double-teams. I was just trying to go quick and make them adjust to me instead of adjusting to them. And just make the right reads out of it.”

He has double-doubled in two of three games against Memphis in the series and is the first Lakers player to tally 15 blocks within three playoff games since Shaquille O’Neal in 2004. Davis joined Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only players since 1973 to have 65+ points, 35+ rebounds and 15+ blocks over their first three playoff games of a postseason.

James had 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists on Saturday. He made 10 of his 16 shots inside of the arc while falling one rebound shy of a double-double. James was one of four Lakers starters to score in double figures, with Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell (17 points) and Austin Reaves (13) being the others.

Rui Hachimura had 16 points and five rebounds off the bench and is averaging 21.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 28.0 minutes. He is the first Lakers player since Luke Walton (2008) to score 15+ points off the bench in three straight playoff games.

Against that LA defense, Memphis only managed to convert on a lowly 37.6% of their shot attempts from the field and 33.3% of their attempts from deep while coughing up 18 turnovers. We like the Lakers to keep rolling in Game 4.
