Brooklyn Nets @ Los Angeles Clippers – Monday, December 27th

On Monday night, the Los Angeles Clippers will host the Brooklyn Nets and the newly renamed Crypto.com Arena. The Clippers received some rough news yesterday, as it was announced that Paul George would be out for three to four weeks with a torn ligament in his elbow. Not only were the Clippers missing Kawhi Leonard, who has yet to play this season after ACL surgery, but now they’ll be missing George. George was their leading scorer and had the Clippers sitting in the fifth spot in the Western Conference playoff race with a 17-15 record.

The Nets will also be missing two of their top players as well. Kevin Durant, who has been out since December 18th as he is in the Covid protocol will not be cleared to play on Monday night. Kyrie Irving who had planned on playing in road games is also in the league’s protocol. As of now, the only other player that will be missing from the Nets will be LaMarcus Aldridge. In Durant’s absence, James Harden has taken over as the team’s leader. After a slow start to the season, Harden has picked things up and has gotten himself back into shape.

The Clippers without George are an average team at best. The Nets still have quite a bit of star power even without Durant and Irving. The advantage should go to the Nets in this one.

Denver Nuggets @ Golden State Warriors – Tuesday, December 28th

At 15-16, the Nuggets haven’t gotten off to the start that they had hoped for. While Nikola Jokic is still playing at an elite level, he hasn’t received the needed help from his teammates like he did last season. Michael Porter Jr. is out for the season with a bad back, and the Nuggets have also had numerous other players miss games here and there with injury issues. The Nuggets may be catching a break this week when playing the Warriors. Not only do they play them on Tuesday, but they will then play again on Thursday in Denver.

It’s hard to say that you can catch a break when playing the Warriors. After beating the Suns on Christmas, they now own the league’s best record. Steph Curry and company are playing at a high level, and they’re one of the favorites to win the NBA title. However, the Warriors will be going into the week a little short-handed. They were already missing Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins who were both in the league’s health and safety protocol, but it was announced on Sunday that Wiggins and Poole will be joined by Draymond Green. Green has been a big key to the Warriors’ success this season.
