Why Bet On Duke?

The Blue Devils (14-2) played without Coach K for the first time Saturday and beat Boston College 93-82. Did Duke star Grayson Allen actually trip yet another player? Following Duke’s win, the ACC released a statement saying, “there is nothing conclusive that can be determined” as to whether Allen intentionally made contact with an Eagles player using his leg or foot. The play in question occurred in the first half, when Allen extended his left leg while trying to fight through a screen set by Boston College’s Connar Tava. No call was made during the game, so no further action is expected from the ACC. Allen, who started Saturday’s game, finished with 12 points, five rebounds, 11 assists and three steals while playing a game-high 37 minutes. Freshman Jayson Tatum matched a season high with 22 points, scoring nine in the final 4½ minutes, and Duke held on in interim head coach Jeff Capel’s season debut. The Blue Devils had six double-figure scorers in winning their first game at Cameron Indoor Stadium without Coach K since 1995. The Blue Devils shot 55 percent but blew most of a 25-point lead, with the Eagles chipping away over the final 10 minutes and pulling to 88-82 on Ky Bowman’s reverse layup with 44.1 seconds left. Sophomore Luke Kennard connected on 1-of- 2 (.500) attempts from beyond the arc, his 19th consecutive game with at least one three-pointer (dating back to last season). Kennard is shooting 24-of-43 (.558) from three-point range over the team’s last eight games. The Blue Devils scored at least 70 points for the 15th game this season, marking the second straight year Duke posted at least 70 points in 15 of its first 16 games. Allen became the first Blue Devil to register 10+ assists since Tyus Jones posted a 12-assist effort against Florida State Feb. 9, 2015. The Blue Devils scored 38 points in the paint against Boston College, bringing their season total to 556 points scored in the lane. Forty-four percent of Duke’s points have come in the paint this season. Duke held Boston College to just 3-of- 14 (.214) shooting from beyond the arc, the sixth game this season a Blue Devil opponent shot under 25.0 percent from three-point range.

Why Bet On Florida State?

FSU (15-1) is off a 93-78 home win over No. 21 Virginia Tech. Terance Mann scored a career-high 22 points as the No. 12 Seminoles improved to 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play for the first time in 26 years of league play. In addition to matching the school record with their 11th consecutive victory, the Noles recorded their third win – and second consecutive – over a nationally ranked opponent this season. The Hokies came into the game leading the ACC in three-point field goal percentage and averaging nine a game from beyond the arc, made just 4-of- 15. Dwayne Bacon, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, extended his streak of double-digit scoring games to 25 games with 17 points after hitting 6-of- 16 from the floor and 5-of- 5 at the free throw line. Bacon’s double figure streak began on Feb. 17, 2016 against Georgia Tech in Tallahassee. Freshman Jonathan Isaac pitched in 13 points and eight rebounds; one shy of Mann’s game and career-high matching nine boards. The Seminoles took a 48-37 lead into the intermission, marking the eighth time this season and first time in ACC action that Florida State has scored at least 40 points in the opening frame. The most points in the first half (61) came against Nicholls State (Dec. 8, 2016). Florida State earned back-to- back victories over ranked teams (11-Virginia, 60-58—Dec. 31) and (21-Virginia Tech, 93-78—Jan. 7) for the first time since downing (6-Duke, 62-59—March 10, 2012) and (4-North Carolina, 83-62—March 11) in the 2012 ACC Tournament. The 93-point output marked the sixth time this season that Florida State has topped 90 points in a contest. The 3-0 start in Atlantic Coast Conference play marks the first time since the 1988-89, when Florida State was a member of the Metro Conference, that the Seminoles were 3-0 in conference action.
