Underdog Packers into San Francisco

In the Green Bay Packers 48-32 win over the Dallas Cowboys; the game was never close. The Packers scored 27 first half points, and led the game by 20 points. 21 more second half points did the Cowboys in. Aaron Jones was fantastic for Green Bay, with 118 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jordan Love, in his first game as a starting quarterback in the postseason, recorded 272 yards passing and 3 touchdowns.

Love put together a sensational first season under center. Love threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns on the season. He had a bunch of various receivers, but Jayden Reed emerged as his top receiver. Reed finished with 64 receptions, 793 yards and 8 touchdowns on the season.  Romeo Doubs was solid as well, with 8 touchdowns in 17 games. The Packers finished 12th in passing yards with 233.4 per game.

Aaron Jones started the season slow, but his final three regular season games all went over 100 yards on the ground. Jones finished with just two rushing touchdowns on the season. The Packers are averaging 112.1 yards per game on the ground. AJ Dillon was in and out of injuries, but recorded 178 carries.

The Packers needed a Week 18 at home over the Bears to even get into the postseason. Green Bay started the season with a 2-5 record, and fell to 3-6. The Packers won six out of their final eight games to get into the postseason. The Packers scored 27.6 points per game over their final three wins.

Green Bay Will Need Defensive Shoes

There is no doubt the Green Bay Packers will need their defensive shoes for this game. That will start with linebackers Quay Walker and Isaiah McDuffie. Those two combined for more than 200 yards and led the team a season ago. When it comes to sacks, Preston Smith was the man, along with Rashan Gary. Those two combined for 17 on the season. The Packers scored two defensive touchdowns on the season. Quay Walker returned an interception for a touchdown, while Jonathan Owens received a fumble and took it to the house.

Offense Starts with McCaffrey

The San Francisco 49ers did not play last week, so it will be two weeks off for running back Christian McCaffrey. The running back was nearly unstoppable during the regular season with more than 1,400 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. McCaffrey also caught 67 passes, and had 7 additional touchdowns.

Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel have emerged as three of the top targets in all of the league. They combined for 200 receptions, and over 2,000 yards, with 20 touchdowns on the season. Those are quite the options for Brock Purdy. Purdy played in 16 games and tossed for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns on the season, with just 11 interceptions.

The 49ers were the dominant team all season in the National Football League. San Francisco started the season 5-0 scoring 30+ points in each of those games. They fell into a bit of a lull in Week 6 with three straight losses. In all three losses, the 49ers scored 17 points. After a loss in Week 8, and a bye in Week 9, the 49ers came back and won six straight. In each of those games, they scored 27 points or more.

Christmas Day, the 49ers lost at home to the Rams. After beating the Commanders on New Years Eve, they had the top seed all wrapped up. They did not play starters in a Week 18 game to the Rams, they lost in.

Monsters on Defense

Fred Warner leads the 49er defense. He recorded 132 tackles in 17 games this season. Just behind him was Dre Greenlaw, with 120 in 15 games. Nick Bosa was the leading sack man with 10.5 on the season. The 49ers caused 22 interceptions this season, with Charvarius Ward leading the team with five. Ward was the lone 49ers defensive player to score a touchdown this season. The 49ers also forced 10 fumbles, and recovered 6 of them.

Postseason Familiarity

This will be the 10th time these two franchises have played in each in the postseason. The last time they played in the postseason, the 49ers beat the Packers 13-10 in the divisional round of 2021. San Francisco has beat the Packers the last four times in the postseason. The last time Green Bay beat the 49ers in the playoffs was in 2021 in the wildcard round.

NFC Divisional Round Packers vs 49ers Betting Pick | Same ole San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers beat you to death with 1,000 paperclips. This is a team that can get it done in many ways. If it is not Christian McCaffrey on the ground, it’s Brock Purdy and his ability to pass the football. If it is not Deebo Samuel, it’s Brandon Aiyuk. If it is not Aiyuk, it’s George Kittle. If it is not the offense, it is the defense. The point remains – this team is loaded with talent. The Packers have had a nice season, but the end is near. The 49ers have a good plan for Green Bay, and hold them to just 17 points. The 49ers win the game 31-17 and head to the NFC title game. Bet the 49ers -9.5 over the Packers!

Previous Betting News

Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers might go down as the most talented quarterback in NFL history, but for whatever reason he is 0-3 career in the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers and the Pack host the Niners on Saturday night in the Divisional Round as nearly TD favorites on the NFL odds.

Last Meeting

In Week 3, the Packers won 30-28 at the Niners. Mason Crosby hit a 51-yard field goal as time expired. The 49ers fell behind 17-0 in the first half but scratched their way out of the hole to take a 28-27 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the game. Aaron Rodgers had 261 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 23-of-33 passing in the win. Jimmy Garoppolo finished 25-of-40 with 257 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for the 49ers in the loss.

Green Bay leads 34-28-1 all-time in the regular season but the teams have split eight playoff meetings.

Why Bet on San Francisco?

The Niners were 23-17 upset winners at Dallas last Sunday. San Francisco dominated the majority of the contest before a slew of fourth quarter mistakes gave Dallas a chance to rally back. It was the 49ers defense who got the final stop as time expired.

The last four winners of a San Francisco-Dallas playoff game have advanced to win the Super Bowl. Overall, in six of their seven playoff matchups, the winner has earned a berth in the Super Bowl, including five total Super Bowl victories.

Deebo Samuel had 110 scrimmage yards (72 rushing, 38 receiving) and a rushing touchdown vs. Dallas. Over his last nine games, including the Wild Card victory, Samuel has averaged 6.6 yards per carry and scored 10 scrimmage touchdowns (eight rushing, two receiving).

Jimmy Garoppolo completed 16-of-25 passes for 172 yards with an awful interception in the win that nearly allowed Dallas to rally. Jimmy G improved to 3-1 career as a starting quarterback in the postseason. He suffered a slight shoulder sprain but will be good to go Saturday. Rookie Elijah Mitchell rushed 27 times for 96 yards and one touchdown in the win and has a knee injury but also will play in this one.

San Francisco and Green Bay are meeting in the playoffs for a ninth time, all in the last 26 years. Since the Packers defeated the 49ers at Candlestick Park in the 1995 postseason, no other pairings have met more than five times in the playoffs. Green Bay and San Francisco have split their eight playoff games, 4-4. The winner of a 49ers-Packers playoff game has gone on to the Super Bowl on four occasions: 1996, 1997, 2012 and 2019.

San Francisco has a 33-21 (.611) all-time postseason record, the second-highest postseason winning percentage in NFL history. Green Bay ranks third with a .600 (36-24) postseason winning percentage.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan, including a 1-0 record against the Packers (2019 NFC Championship Game), is 3-1 career in the postseason, with his only loss coming in Super Bowl LIV.

Why Bet on Green Bay?

The Packers come off their bye week and are about as healthy as possible. Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur is the first individual since the league merger in 1970 to win at least 13 games in each of his first three years as an NFL head coach. With a win on Saturday, LaFleur would join Jim Harbaugh as the only coaches since the league merger in 1970 to lead teams to their conference Championship Games in each of their first three seasons as an NFL head coach.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Debo led the NFL with a 111.9 passer rating and became the fourth quarterback since 1970 to lead the league in the category in at least four different seasons. In 20 career postseason starts, he has 5,669 passing yards (283.4 per game) with 49 touchdowns (45 passing, four rushing) and 13 interceptions for a 100.5 rating.

Rodgers, who grew up a 49ers fan and played college football in the Bay Area at the University of California, is 3-1 in the Divisional round following a first-round bye. Rodgers has played the 49ers 12 times, including the postseason, and has registered a passer rating of 90-plus in 11 of those games and a passer rating of 100-plus in six contests, including in each of the last two matchups (147.2 and 113.3). Overall, Rodgers has posted 25 TDs, five INTs and a passer rating of 104.7 (including postseason) against San Francisco.

Packers star wideout Davante Adams, who had 12 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown in the Packers’ Week 3 win at San Francisco, ranked second in the league this season with 123 receptions, third with 1,553 receiving yards and fifth with 11 touchdown catches. Since 2016, Adams leads all NFL players in both receptions (581) and touchdown catches (69). Adams has played in five games against the 49ers (including playoffs), averaging 9.6 receptions, 123.6 yards and a TD per game.

On Thursday, the Packers activated wideout Randall Cobb from injured reserve. He will be needed with deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling doubtful after getting injured in Week 18.

Expert Prediction: Packers 27, 49ers 20

Packers vs 49ers 2020 NFC Championship Odds, Preview & Pick

Previous Betting News

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers escaped another heroic performance by Russell Wilson to reach the NFC Championship game. Now, with a chance to give their future Hall of Fame quarterback a shot to reach and potentially win Super Bowl 54, the Packers will be looking to extract some revenge when they hit the road to take on Jimmy Garoppolo and the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Frisco used a dominating performance to reach the NFC title tilt and will be going all-out for the win in the 2020 NFC Championship game. Now, let’s find out which team is offering the best value against their NFL odds.

Why Bet On Green Bay?

The Packers got past Seattle 28-23 in their divisional round matchup on Sunday, but it wasn’t pretty and Green Bay had to hold on for dear life in the game’s final minutes. While Aaron Rodgers passed for 243 yards and two scores while running back Aaron Jones added two rushing scores in the win. The bad news is that the Packers scored just seven second half points against the Seahawks and none in the fourth quarter while giving up 20 second half points defensively.

Still, the Packers have an active defense that ranked ninth in points allowed and some athletic linebackers that will get after Jimmy G in this contest. Unfortunately, all of their athleticism didn’t help at all in their embarrassing 37-8 Week 12 road loss against the Niners that saw Rodgers limited to just 104 passing yards and one touchdown.

The good news is that Green Bay has won six straight heading into the NFC Championship while allowing just 15.6 points per game during the span.

Why Bet On San Francisco?

San Francisco has won four of their last five dating back to the regular season and the Niners come into the NFC Championship game off a dominating 27-10 smackdown win over Minnesota in the divisional round.

The 49ers completely shut down the Vikings’ offense while allowing no second half points and Garropolo tossed one TD pass in the win while veteran running back Tevin Coleman added a pair of rushing touchdowns.

The Niners finished the regular season ranked a stellar second in scoring (29.9 ppg) and an equally impressive eighth in points allowed (19.4 ppg). Frisco got to Aaron Rodgers five times in their regular season meeting while Garoppolo pretty much had his way by passing for 253 yards and two scores in the 37-8 blowout win.

Packers vs 49ers Expert Analysis and Prediction

While Green Bay managed to win the same amount of games as San Francisco this season, these two teams are most definitely, not created equal. While the Packers were solid defensively this season, the 49ers are completely dominant on that side of the ball. While Frisco scored points consistently, Green Bay finished 15th in scoring in the regular season and they sure didn’t look ‘explosive’ while getting shut down in the second half against Seattle this past weekend.

Aaron Rodgers and company might be 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 playoff road games, but San Francisco has gone 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings against the Packers. No matter how hard I try to envision Green Bay getting the upset win I don’t see it happening. Hell, when it comes to the ATS cover, I’ve got Frisco winning the 2020 NFC Championship by double digits!

Pick: San Francisco -7.5
