We are going to see many more moves before this offseason is all said and done, and not all of them are going to be of the expected variety. With all of that in mind, let’s see what’s making headlines in the world of the NFL so you can keep planning your bets against their NFL odds for the new season.

NFL Rumors & Betting News March 29th Edition

The biggest news of the last few days was the San Francisco 49ers swinging a deal with the Miami Dolphins to move up into the #3 pick in the draft. The 49ers needed to give up several draft picks, including their first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 to make the move happen, but the feeling is that they did so in order to get themselves one of the top QB prospects in this draft. As you might expect, that move had a ripple effect across the league, with many teams forced to rethink their strategy.

The player likely to be most affected by this trade is 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who was already rumored to be on the outs in San Francisco. One team that could potentially be interested in getting him in some sort of deal is his old team, the New England Patriots. While the Patriots recently signed Cam Newton to another 1-year deal, word is that they are still in the market for another QB, either through the draft or by picking up a veteran arm. Whether that is Garoppolo remains to be seen, but we should remember that Bill Belichick was reportedly high on Jimmy G and was not pleased when he was traded away.

Another QB rumored to be heading to a new address may in fact be staying put, if rumors are to be believed. The latest out of New York is that the Jets are considering keeping Sam Darnold while still taking a QB with their second overall pick. The Jets are said to still be high on Darnold and his skill set, but that seems a little harder to believe if they do go out and draft another QB. This could also be a case of the Jets trying to make Darnold seem like more of a catch in the trade market, but it is going to be interesting to see how this one plays out.

In news that really came as a surprise to no one, it seems that the NFL is set to announce that the regular season will be expanding from 16 games to 17. Where things get a little tricky is in how they will figure out who plays who. The 17th game will feature non-conference match-ups, but using a different formula from what we usually see when the regular season schedule is created. It will be fun to see what the schedule makers come up with.
