NFL Rumors & News: Aaron Rodgers Wants to Leave the Packers

Written by on May 3, 2021

The 2021 NFL Draft is in the books, and as we expected, there were some surprises along the way. The pundits have already given their rankings on how well, or poorly, they think each team did in the draft, but the reality is that it will be a few seasons at least before we get a clear idea of the actual results. While things tend to go a little quiet after the draft, the rumors out of the NFL suggest that there are still some moves to be made. One player in particular is dominating the headlines, and that is where we are going to start out news roundup this week. With that being said, let’s get right to it so you can continue planning your bets against their NFL odds.

NFL Rumors & Betting News May 3rd Edition

As you all probably already know, the player in question is Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. Heading into the offseason, we were all aware that the league MVP was not entirely happy with life in Green Bay, and that has now been made official, with word getting out that Rodgers has no interest in playing for the Packers again. We all waited through the draft to see if some move would be made, but as of yet, there is nothing official to report. That said, one rumor suggests that a deal between the Packers and Broncos is all but done, so that is something we will be keeping an eye on.

Anther rumor involving Rodgers actually took place prior to the draft, with the San Francisco 49ers reported to have tabled an offer to the Packers that would have included them giving up their #3 pick to land the MVP. It goes without saying that nothing came of that proposed deal, but according to sources close to Rodgers, he wanted the Packers to accept it. This story just further proves that Jimmy Garoppolo’s time in San Francisco is all but over.

You do always wonder how much truth there is to any rumor that you hear. The proof of that can be found by looking at the Zach Ertz situation in Philly. Word prior to the draft was that the Eagles had some deals on the table that would see their veteran tight end move to a new location before the weekend was out, but here we are on Monday morning with Ertz still an Eagle. Further muddying the waters is the fact that the Eagles did not select a TE in the 2021 NFL draft. Things will likely become a whole lot clearer on June 1, which is when we might see another flurry of cuts and trades.

One of the more interesting pieces of news hitting the headlines this past week was about Tim Tebow allegedly trying out for a tight end spot with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Back in the days when Tebow was still in the NFL, there were a lot of people who believed that his best shot at staying in the league was to move from QB to TE. We all know how that played out, but it seems as though Tebow is willing to give that idea a try now, with his former Florida coach Urban Meyer seemingly willing to give the 33-year-old a shot.
