2022 NFL Week 3 Betting Analysis: Lions vs Vikings Odds and Prediction

The Detroit Lions have become a popular team this season. After many watched the inner workings of the organization on “Hard Knocks”, America has seemed to fall in love with Dan Campbell and his Lions squad. Detroit didn’t win a game until Week 13 last season, and after Week 2 of this season, they already have a victory. The Lions will be looking for their second win of the season as they travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings on Sunday afternoon.

These two NFC North rivals enter this one with 1-1 records. As a matter of fact, all four teams in the division are 1-1. While the Lions are coming off of a big win against the Washington Commanders, while the Vikings were embarrassed in a prime time clash against the Philadelphia Eagles.

We’ll give you a brief preview of each team, followed by our prediction for Sunday’s big matchup so you can bet against their NFL Odds.

Detroit Lions

While the Lions may not be ready to make a playoff run, they look like they’ve improved tremendously from last season. Campbell has done a great job of getting his team to buy in. With a strong rushing attack led by D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, the start of a breakout season by Amon-Ra St. Brown, and an improved offensive line, the Lions offense can score some points. As long as Jared Goff can take care of the football, this offense should be much improved over last seasons.

With a young defense, there will always be some growing pains, but this unit also looks to be improved. With Aiden Hutchinson, the first pick in last year’s draft, going off last week against Washington, and the improved play of the secondary, this Lions defense could be quite good by the end of the season.

Minnesota Vikings

With Kevin O’Connell taking over for the fired Mike Zimmer, the Vikings brought in an offensive-minded coach. Thus far, Justin Jefferson has been the beneficiary of O’Connell’s offense. He has been phenomenal to start the season, and many think that he is the best receiver in the league. Even though Dalvin Cook has yet to get going, he’s dangerous every time he touches the ball. With Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Irv Smith, Jr. catching passes, and the running of Cook, this could be an explosive offense. It’s up to Kirk Cousins, who has looked great at times, and awful at others, to put a full season of good play together.

While the Vikings have some question marks on the defensive side of the ball, they have played fairly well the first two weeks of the season. They did a great job of slowing Aaron Rodgers down in Week 1, and last week, some Cousins turnovers put them into some bad positions. We’ll see how they plan to attack an improved Lions offense. We know they’ll key on slowing St. Brown down, and they’ll want to keep Swift from turning upfield.

Prediction

After last week’s debacle against the Eagles, it’s a little surprising that the Vikings are an eight-point favorite in this one. While we think they’ll rebound and win this football game, we don’t think that the Vikings will cover the spread. We think that Minnesota wins on a late field goal.
