It was not the best night for the Oilers in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final, but this is something that will probably seem eerily familiar to them. Let’s not forget that they went into Calgary for Game 1 in the last round and came away with a 9-6 loss. After that defeat, they never looked back and went on to win 4 in a row to take the series. As good as Calgary are, this Colorado team is just that much better, so is this reason for the Oilers to perhaps be a little concerned? There are some signs, other than the series against the Flames, that suggests they might be able to bounce back. They are 4-1 in their last 5 versus a team with a winning record and are 11-3 SU in their last 14 games following a game where they scored 5 or more goals.
Why bet on the Colorado Avalanche
Even before the season began, the Colorado Avalanche were in as the favorite to win the Stanley Cup. As their stock continues to rise, their odds continue to shorten, and they are likely to be more of a favorite after their offensive display in Game 1. This is very similar to the way they played in the opening round when they basically blew the Nashville Predators out of the water. That said, giving up 6 goals on home ice, regardless of the outcome, has to be seen as a bit of a warning sign, and one that the Avalanche will almost certainly be aware of after seeing how the Oilers reacted to a similar loss in the last round. Colorado has rebounded nicely in game after giving up 5 or more goals, going 12-2 in their last 14. Similarly, when their opponents score 5 or more goals in the previous game, the Avalanche have seen the OVER hit in 5 of the 6 following games.

If we are going to continue playing the OVER/UNDER game, then I think it might be smart to stick with the OVER. This series looks like it might be about ready to devolve into a shootout, so I am taking the Avalanche to win and the OVER.
