PGA Tour Calendar Betting Analysis for 2022 Season: Major Tournaments

As we head into the holiday season, it reminds us more than ever why we love the game of golf. Sunshine, warm weather, green grass, and plenty of birdies, hopefully. The long summer nights and days filled with golf, keep us going during the winter months. Unlike the pros, we do not have the opportunity to play year-round.

While we play golf, we can also watch golf and there is nothing better than watching major championship golf. Last year we had first-time winners, and old memories renewed of former winners. You truly see it all at the tour level.

Let’s take a look at this year’s major championships, courses, and who could be a name to watch out for so you can plan your bets against the PGA Tour odds.

2022 Golf Major Rundown | PGA Tour Betting

The Masters

Augusta, Georgia, the home of the most prestigious golf course in the United States. Augusta National, home of The Masters and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. We have seen many firsts in the last two years at The Masters. In 2020, we saw Dustin Johnson win in November, the first time the tournament had been played in the fall. To follow that up, this last spring we saw the first Japanese-born player to win a major in golf by Hideki Matsuyama in his performance at The Masters.

There is no better tournament to kick off the major championship season than the best week in golf at The Masters. Will it finally be Rory’s year to complete the grand slam? Will we see another first-time winner? Who will be the one to put on the green jacket this year?

Augusta National is a ball striker’s paradise. Tiger Woods has had so much success at Augusta National. Hideki Matsuyama is one of the best ball strikers on tour as well. This is also a course where we see the unthinkable. Names to look out for at The Masters in 2022 include Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Rory McIlroy.

PGA Championship

In May of last year, it was another old-timer getting the job done at the highest level, with Phil Mickelson winning the PGA Championship. His second PGA Championship victory and his sixth major win, Phil conquered Kiawah Islands where Rory McIlroy previously won.

This year in May, Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, will be the host of the 2022 PGA Championship. This is an event where Collin Morikawa won his first major at TPC Harding Park.

Do not be surprised to see Bryson Dechambeau, Brooks Koepka, or Collin Morikawa make a run at this tournament. Jordan Spieth would complete the career grand slam if he is able to win this tournament.

U.S. Open

The 2022 U.S. Open will be held at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. Last year with the event held at Torrey Pines, John Rahm won his first major tournament. The year before that, Bryson Dechambeau won his first major at Winged Foot. Could we see another first-time winner at the U.S. Open?

This is an event that you will see great putters and players with very good short games take home a win. The typical firm and fast conditions allow longer hitters to take advantage as we have seen in the past with Koepka and Dechambeau. Rahm is no slouch himself in those categories, but he also has a very good short game.

The U.S. Open will be June 16th through June 19th.

The Open Championship

Also known as The British Open, The Open, and many other names but this is one of the most historic tournaments in the history of golf. Playing for the Claret Jug, there is nothing better than a victory drink from the jug. The historic tournament returns to the home of golf this year in a very anticipated tournament at The Old Course at St. Andrew’s.

A course that is on my personal bucket list, this will have all the feelings of a major championship. The last time The Open was held at St. Andrew’s, Zach Johnson held off fellow American Jordan Spieth for the win.

Last year we saw Collin Morikawa win this tournament in a spectacular Sunday performance. You may be seeing a trend here that Morikawa is always being named as a contender. As long as he is playing in a major, his numbers are starting to compare with Tiger Woods. A good comparison if you ask me.

While this winter season is coming upon us and if you are not lucky enough to be in the sunshine year round, keep your head up. Practice in the garage or a simulator if you have the ability but better days are ahead when springtime comes.
