Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell Odds, Picks, and Tennis Betting Analysis

With the ATP 1000 Monte Carlo Masters in the rearview mirror, the men’s tour splits into three clay tournaments this week, and the top players are all headed in different directions. The biggest of those tournaments is the ATP 500 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, which takes place at the oldest tennis courts in Spain. The event will be held at the Real Club de Barcelona and is the final tune-up before the ATP 1000 Madrid Masters.

Let’s take a look at the ATP odds for the 2023 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell and some of the tournament odds at MyBookie.

Rafael Nadal, a 12-time champion in Barcelona, will not play this week because of injury. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is back as the top seed after missing Monte Carlo, and he is the favorite to win the clay-court tournament. Stefanos Tsitsipas is the No. 2 seed, followed by Casper Ruud, Janik Sinner, Frances Tiafoe, and Karen Khachanov.

Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Monte Carlo finalists Andrey Rublev and Holger Rune are playing elsewhere this week.

Alcaraz the Favorite

Despite not playing since losing to Sinner in the finals of the Miami Open on March 20, Alcaraz is the favorite at -108. Alcaraz has a title on clay this year from Buenos Aires, and he lost a final on clay in Rio de Janeiro. The young Spaniard won at Indian Wells before losing in the finals of the Miami Open, and he withdrew from Monte Carlo with an injury.

The top speed could face Roberto Bautista Agut, a clay-court specialist, in the round of 16. A match against Tiafoe, who beat Alcaraz in the 2021 Barcelona Open, looms in the quarters. If healthy and ready to go, Alcaraz is a big favorite and likely to at least reach the finals, with Tsitsipas and Sinner in the bottom half of the draw.

Sinner Continues to Surge

Sinner, a 21-year-old Italian, is having a fantastic 2023 season. He reached another semifinal last week at Monte Carlo before falling in three sets to Rune. With a 21-5 record on the season, Sinner has shown he can win on a variety of surfaces and won’t back down from other top-10 opposition.

Sinner is +404 to win in Barcelona, the second favorite behind Alcaraz. He’s in the bottom of the draw and should easily navigate the first two matches. If the seeded players stay alive, he would face either Cam Norrie or Lorezno Musetti in the quarters, and he just knocked off Musetti in Monte Carlo.

Longer Shots to Bet

After Alcaraz and Sinner, the odds drop considerably. Tsitsipas is +800, Ruud is +1000, Khachanov is +2500, and Tiafoe is +4000 to win the event. Of those, Ruud and Tiafoe are bets to keep an eye on, especially if Alcaraz isn’t 100 percent healthy in the top half of the draw.

Ruud is in the top half but wouldn’t face Alcaraz or Tiafoe until the semifinals. He has won nine career ATP tournaments on clay, but he was upset in straight sets in the third round in Monte Carlo by unseeded Jan-Lennard Struff. Ruud reached the quarterfinals in Barcelona last year before losing to Pablo Carreno Busta.

Tiafoe withdrew from last week’s Monte Carlo Masters and is seeded fifth this week. He won the U.S. Clay Court Championships in Houston in his last event and does have a big Barcelona win, beating Alcaraz in the 2021 first round. A long shot at +4000, Tiafoe likely has to beat either Alcaraz or Ruud, maybe both, to reach the final.
