Formula E 2022 Diriyah E-Prix Betting Analysis & Prediction for Race 1 & 2

Who says electric cars can’t be cool? Anyone who does believe that has obviously not tuned into a Formula E event. If you were to stumble upon a Formula E race by mistake, you would certainly be forgiven for thinking you were watching F1, as the vehicle and the setting are all very similar to the big boys. The main difference, as the name suggests, is that the drivers are hitting the track in all-electric vehicles. It may sound a little different than what you are used to, but make no mistake about it, the excitement level is very much the same. The 2022 Formula E season kicks off this weekend, with a pair of races set to go in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. It is always tough to pick out potential winners in the opening race of the season, but we do have some idea of the guys that might be in the mix. With all that said, let’s get to it so you can get ready to start making your bets against the Formula E odds.

Formula E Betting Analysis for the 2022 Diriyah E-Prix

Nyck De Vries

You cannot talk about potential winners of the opening race of the FE season without mentioning the defending champion. De Vries finished 11th overall in his first season with Formula E, so there were not a ton of expectations on his shoulders heading into the new season. He signaled his intent by winning under the lights in Diriyah in the first even night race. He didn’t fare so well in the 2nd of the 2 races, finishing 9th in that one. De Vries only had 1 more win on the season, but managed to rack up enough points, including 2 more podium finishes, to lead what was a very closely packed driver standings board. With a win on this track already, he does deserve to be considered one of the favorites.

Sam Bird

In his 7 seasons as part of the Formula E lineup, Bird has always been able to deliver at least 1 win per season. He actually won the same number of races (2) as last season’s overall winner, but he came up short in what was a very tight race for the championship. One of those victories came in Round 2 of the season in 2021, which just happened to be in Diriyah, so Bird has to be considered a threat here. Whether he can translate a strong start to a World Championship remains to be seen, though, as he has never quite been able to reach those heights, with 3rd overall being his best finish at this level of racing. Still, he is definitely worth a look.

Robin Frijns

Given that Frijns has only ever won 2 races in Formula E in 5 seasons, he might be considered something of a longshot in these races. Both of those wins came back in the 2018-19 season, and he had not taken a checkered flag since. That doesn’t mean that he has not been close, though, as he has seen more than his fair share of podiums over the years. One of those podiums came in Round 2 of the season in Diriyah last year, with Frijns finishing just behind Bird. Yes, this is a driver who might not have a history of racking up wins, but I might be tempted to take a chance on him this weekend.
