The Formula-E season is drawing to a close, with this weekend in Rome being the first of two doubleheader events that will ultimately end the season and decide who will be the world champion. With just 4 races to go, we have a battle at the top of the standings that is absolutely one for the ages, with the top 2 drivers separated by just a single point. A solid showing from one of those drivers in Rome could well put them on the brink of winning it all, although this is a battle that is more than likely going to go all the way down to the wire and the final doubleheader in London. Jake Dennis

It is Dennis who sits atop the driver standings after amassing 154 points thus far in the season. What may come as a surprise to many is that he has only managed 1 win this season, with that one coming in the opening race of the year. While he hasn’t won since, Dennis has consistently found himself on the podium, and he is currently on a run of 5 straight podium finishes, which includes 4 2nd place runs. He is proof that you don’t always have to win to be a champion, but he could use a checkered flag or two in the final races. He did not do well in Rome last season, so the pressure is on.

Nick Cassidy

Like we said earlier, things are ridiculously tight at the top of the driver standings, with Cassidy trailing Dennis by a single point. You do have to say that this is a bit of a surprise given that Cassidy has not been that great in his first two seasons with Formula-E, finishing 15th and 11th, respectively. His first career win at this level came last season, and he has topped that this year with 3 wins. Those wins have come in the last 5 races, so this is a driver who is closing out the season strong, so he may be able to continue that run this weekend.

Pascal Wehrlein

In the early part of the season, it looked as though Wehrlein might be the man to beat this season, but that has not proven to be the case. He won 2 of the opening 3 races of the season, but after being forced to retire in Cape Town, he cooled off dramatically after that. He did pick up a win in Jakarta recently, but other than that, he hasn’t been able to even crack the top 5 in the 6 other races since Jakarta. His current form suggests that he might not be a factor this weekend.

Mitch Evans

Over the last 6 seasons, Evans has been one of the more consistent drivers in Formula-E. His best showing came last season, when he finished 2nd overall, but he hasn’t quite been able to push on from that in the way in which we all expected. Still, Evans is sitting in 4th overall and very much has 3rd in his sights, which is probably what he is aiming for at this point. Evans Has won twice already this season, plus he won both Rome races last year, so might he be ready to make a big move this weekend?
