A little over a month ago, it looked for all the world as though Palou was going to run away with it and nab his 2nd championship sooner rather than later. He went on a run that saw him win 3 straight races and 4 out of 5 to open up a big lead at the top. He has not won since, and while he has had some podium finishes in there, his lead has now been cut to 84 points. In the grand scheme of things, that is still a sizeable gap with just 4 races to come, so a win this weekend might well seal the deal for Palou. He won on this track earlier in the season, so do we see another checkered flag in his future?

Josef Newgarden

IndyCar Odds: +450

With a bit of an uneven start to the 2023 season, Newgarden may have given himself too much work to do to win his 3rd IndyCar Championship. You do have to say that he is making things interesting, though, especially when he recently won a doubleheader in Iowa. On the downside, he lost a little ground in the last race, finishing 4th in Nashville. He pretty much needs to be perfect the rest of the way if he is to complete the comeback, but his last win on this track came back in 2020.

Kyle Kirkwood

IndyCar Odds: +650

This is just the 2nd full season in IndyCar for Kirkwood, and it has been a bit of a strange one. His first year at this level was pretty much forgettable, as he ended up finishing 24th overall, failing to even get close to a podium. In contrast, this season has had a few more highs, including a pair of wins, which has him sitting in the top 10 in the driver standings. Kirkwood won in Nashville last time out and will be looking to make it 2 in a row. He seems like a risky bet to me, at least in terms of winning.

Pato O’Ward

IndyCar Odds: +750

This is a season that O’Ward will almost certainly want to forget. 2022 was a bit of a backward step for him, finishing 6th overall, but the way things are looking now, it could be an even worse finish this time around, as he is currently down in 7th. Making matters worse is the fact that he has failed to win a race this year, although he has been on the podium several times. He did finish 2nd on this track earlier this season, so don’t count him out.
