Alvaro Bautista

This has been a truly amazing season for Bautista, who has amassed 391 points through the opening 7 rounds, which is good enough to have him 70 points clear at the top of the standings. He, though, will be the first to tell you that as good as that lead is at this stage of the season, there is still some work to be done. Bautista did see his lead cut a little after the trip of races in Italy. He won one of those, finished 2nd in another, and had to retire in the final race. Overall, though, he has won 17 of 21 races this season and is still the clear favorite. He had 3 podium finishes in this event last season, including a win.

Toprak Razgatlioglu

At this stage of the proceedings, you have to say that Razgatlioglu is the only other racer with a shot at running down Bautista, but he is going to need to be as close to perfect as it gets the rest of the way if he is to pull it off. He certainly helped his cause last time out in Italy, winning 2 of the 3 races and finishing 2nd in the other. That moved him to 321 points and made the task of closing the gap seem suddenly possible. He will need more of the same this weekend, and the good news is that he had 2 wins and a 2nd in the Czech Republic last season. A similar performance might just make the final rounds very exciting indeed.

Andrea Locatelli

As we mentioned earlier, it is very much a 2-horse race at this point, but there are a couple of other racers to consider. Locatelli is currently sitting 3rd overall, and while he has been consistent all year, he is still yet to win a race. In this corresponding race in 2022, he finished 6th in all 3, and given his performances this season, I think we are essentially looking at more of the same this weekend.

At one time, Rea was the top racer in the sport, winning it all in 6 straight seasons. In the years following, he has been consistently among the leaders, and it is more of the same this year, as he is currently sitting in 4th overall, albeit a long way off the pace. Still, he has been on the podium multiple times over the course of the season, He was on the podium twice in the Czech Republic last season and seems like a good bet for the top 3.
