Football and basketball dominate the world of college sports, but there are very few schools who excel in both. Kentucky is known for their dominance on the court, but not so much on the football field, although the perception is changing a little. They have managed a pair of 10-win seasons, including one in 2021, in the last 4 years and are on a run of 4 straight bowl game wins. While that marks a significant step forward for a school better known for basketball, they still have a long way to go to be truly competitive in the SEC, which is arguably the best conference in college football. They have a lot to do to match what they delivered last year, and with their win total set at 7 ½, the feeling is that there may be a backward step coming. Let’s take a look at just how big that step might be so you can plan your bets against their College Football Regular Season Wins Odds.
Kentucky Wildcats 2022 Season Betting Prediction: Win/Loss Record
Wildcats Regular Season
The Wildcats open the season with what looks to be a winnable game versus Miami-Ohio, but things get a good deal tougher win Week 2 when they hit the road to face the Florida Gators. The rest of September looks easier, with home games against Youngstown State and Northern Illinois. At the very worst, the Wildcats should be 3-1, but maybe perfect if they can take down the Gators.
After that comes a very tough stretch of games in the month of October. A road trip to Ole Miss is about as difficult as it gets, with home games versus South Carolina and Mississippi State also of the tough variety. The Wildcats then close out the month with another road game, this time away to the Tennessee Volunteers. Going .500 in October might well be the best that they can ask for.
November starts with a road trip to Missouri to face the Tigers, after which Kentucky will head back home for another winnable one versus Vanderbilt. At this point, I think they could well be sitting on 7 wins heading into the final 2 games of the year. A road trip to face the defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs will almost certainly be a loss, which would mean that they would need a win at home against Louisville to go over the 7 ½ game total.
If we are being honest, the road games that the Wildcats have to play this season make it very unlikely that they will be able to match their win total from last season. That is not to suggest that they cannot win those tough games, but there are just too many of them to get to double-digits. That said, I think they can sneak over the total and end the regular season with 8 wins.
Beyond the Regular Season
The harsh reality for the Kentucky Wildcats is that they are in a tough conference and a division that is home to the National Champions. I don’t see any path to them knocking Georgia out of the top spot, which means no path to a conference championship game. The best that they can hope for is a good bowl game and a 5th straight win in said bowl.
