NCAA Football Game Lines: O/U Picks Week 1

While we had a handful of games last weekend, the official Week 1 of the college football season is now upon us, with the first batch of games set to go on Thursday night. There are not a ton of huge games to be found in Week 1, with most of the major players opting to go against lesser opponents to get their season started. That can make finding real value a little tricky, but it’s not impossible to find games that you will want to wager on. The OVER/UNDER is a good way to go, which is what we are going to look at here. All told, we have 3 games lined up, all of which can be combined into a parlay ticket or played separately. Let’s look at 3 games we like for the O/U in Week 1 of the college football season.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Vs SMU Mustangs

On the face of it, this looks like a game that many would automatically take the OVER on. Both of these teams are solid on the offensive side of the football and have made a habit of racking up points, but that can often lead to the bookies putting a number on the board that seems just a little too high, which is what I believe we are looking at here. If you look at the trends for the Bulldogs in the point total, you see that they go OVER a lot, but that is not the case with the Mustangs. In fact, 6 of their last 9 games played in September have gone UNDER, as have 4 of their last 5 in Week 1. I’m not sure offenses will click perfectly in Week 1, so let’s lean on the UNDER here.

Boise State Broncos Vs Washington Huskies

NCAA Football Pick: OVER 58 ½
When: Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 3:30pm ET
Where: Husky Stadium, Seattle, WA
TV: ABC

The battle for the PAC 12 Championship is one that could well go all the way down to the wire, as there are 4 or 5 teams who might legitimately have a shot. With that in mind, a fast start is imperative, with the Washington Huskies set to open their season with a tricky game against the Boise State Broncos. This is another game where the trends for both teams would seem to point toward the UNDER, but I think the Huskies are going to want to come out and make a statement in Week 1, especially when opening in their own building. September is a good month to play the OVER with the Huskies, as 5 of their last 6 have gone that route.

Nevada Wolf Pack Vs USC Trojans

NCAA Football Pick: OVER 66
When: Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 6:30pm ET
Where: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
TV: PAC12

While trying to make winning picks in the opening week of the season can be tough, there is one game that stands out as being one to wager on. The USC Trojans have already played this season, as they opened up their slate in Week 0 with a 56-28 win over San Jose State. With Lincoln Riley in charge, we all knew that the Trojans would be offensively minded, but that they might also give up some points, which is exactly what we saw in their opening game of the season. I think we can expect more of the same this week, which is why I am on the OVER.
