Want to dominate your Troy Trojans bets? Check out our expert analysis, odds, and predictions

In college football, there are certain teams that are powerhouses and that are expected to be in the National Championship conversation every single year.

I am talking about the likes of Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and more.

My Analysis

Then there are teams who are happy to be make it to a bowl game, well aware that a playoff spot seems out of reach.

Those supposed lesser teams will have a lot more hope this season with the playoffs now expanded to 12 teams.

There is now a chance for teams from the Group of 5 conferences to make it into the postseason and potentially spring an upset or two.

Can the Troy Trojans of the Sun Belt Conference be one of those teams? Let’s take a look at the current odds and their chances of having another big season.

Troy Trojans Regular Season, Conference, and Win Total

After winning back-to-back Sun Belt championships, it was clear to everyone that coach Jon Sumrall was probably destined for greater things. He has indeed moved on, as have a number of key personnel from those winning seasons.

The Trojans have now made the move from a defensive specialist to a coach that is all about the offense, so it really is tough to know what this team might look like this season.

This could either be a seamless transition or a period of adjustment and a rebuild. After a pair of seasons with 11 and 12 wins, respectively, the bookies see a struggle coming, with the Trojans win total for this year set at 6 ½.

One of the biggest issues that the Trojans are going to need to deal with this season is replacing a number of starting players.

This is particularly noticeable on the offensive side of the football, where they will have a new QB, a new running back, and a bunch of new guys on the offensive line.

That could prove to be problematic, even for a group of coaches that are offensive specialists.

Goose Crowder looks likely to be the starting QB for Troy this season, and he only had 13 total passing attempts last season.

How quickly he can adapt to life as a starter may be the key to Troy’s success or failure.

The strength of this Trojans team under Sumrall was their stifling defensive play, and while they have lost some guys this off season, they have also made some nice moves to get guys with Power 4 experience from the transfer portal.

Will that, though, be enough to keep them in games with an offense that might have some teething problems?

The bookies are definitely not sold on the Trojans and have them sitting in the middle of the pack in the Sun Belt at odds of +1500 to win the conference.

Troy Trojans Postseason Odds

This, to me at least, feels like a season of change for the Trojans. It’s impossible to lose a successful coach and a number of players that helped him to those successes and hope for a seamless transition.

I do think that the defense can keep them in some games, so I might well be willing to take Troy to surpass their win total for this season, but beyond that, I would not be wagering on them to win much else.
