World Cup Four Massive Underdogs
Does Denmark qualify as a massive underdog?
Not really. The team led by Christian Eriksen, one of the top midfielders at the Premier League, has the makings of a true World Cup upsetter. The team will step onto the pitches in Qatar as cohesive as any in the tournament.
What’s interesting is that Denmark is the top underdog play after the gang of +1200, Portugal, Belgium, and the Netherlands. But Denmark’s top foe in Group D, France, is second choice.
Most soccer handicappers must believe the Danes finish second behind France and have no trouble making it to the Round of 16. If that’s the case, Denmark could win the entire tournament.
We can’t forget that Eriksen suffered a heart attack at the latest EUROs and Denmark still managed a semifinal finish, losing to England. Now that Eriksen is one-hundred percent, Denmark can get it done.
Which team has the best shot of World Cup glory? Croatia or Uruguay?
Both the Croatians and Uruguayans deserve a look. Croatia has an easier chance of winning their group. The Croatians landed in the same group as Belgium.
Don’t get us wrong, the Belgians are a solid international soccer team. Any squad that sends Kevin De Bruyne to the pitch won’t lose many games. If you don’t believe us, check out Man City’s record.
De Bruyne is often magic, but in the World Cup, even Kevin can’t ensure a Belgium march to the Round of 16. The Belgian’s window may have closed, which means even though the great Luka Modric is well past 30, Croatia has a real shot of taking Group F.
But even if Croatia wins the group, they’re still not a better play to win it all than Uruguay. First, Uruguay is one of the World Cup’s elite eight, meaning the Uruguayans have won a World Cup in the past.
Uruguay has actually won two World Cup titles. Second, the Uruguayans have an excellent mix of veterans and younger players. Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez are the vets. The young guys are 23-year-old Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez and 24-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.
Don’t be surprised when Uruguay upsets Portugal and wins Group H. The Uruguayans are for real.
What are Senegal’s real chances of winning their group and then winning the World Cup?
Beating the Netherlands won’t be easy. But Senegal has something the Dutch don’t, Sadio Mane.
The Bayern Munich forward is the best passing striker in the world. Yep, we just wrote that. Are we sure? We are in our minds. It doesn’t mean you have to agree with us.
In 11 starts and 2 sub matches, Mane has scored 6 goals and dished 3 while taking 40 shots. That’s not counting his amazing set up passing, which puts his mates into perfect positions for the assist pass.
That’s how good Sadio is. So Senegal has a real shot of winning Group A. Now, once Senegal makes it to Round of 16, things will get tougher. At 80-to-1 odds, we shouldn’t expect too much.
So if you’re looking to back the best super-dog with a chance, consider putting money behind Senegal.
