Five graded stakes races happen this week. On Saturday, Monmouth has a big day when the Oceanport, New Jersey based track runs the Grade 3 Salvatore Mile, the Grade 3 Monmouth, and the Grade 3 Eatontown. Belmont runs the Grade 2 of Bed o’ Roses Invitational on Saturday and then on Sunday, Santa Anita runs the Grade 3 San Juan Capistrano. Michael Stidham trained Catnip took a massive speed rating leap forward in the last. The allowance winner must prove he can take the next forward step to stakes competition.

Cristophe Clement runner Big Everest has won four straight. All four were listed stakes, though, so like Catnip, Everest must prove he can contend on the graded stakes level. Others joining the fray include Eons, Speaking Scout, Oceans Map, and Commander.

So far, connections for four runners have confirmed for the Grade 3 Eatontown. All four can win the race.

Graham Motion trained Bipartisanship, the Gallorette third place finisher, and Todd Pletcher trained Scotish Star will attract the most action unless a couple of world beaters join. Vergara, also trained by Motion, and Malavath from the Cristophe Clement barn, must bounce back from subpar efforts.

Todd Pletcher hasn’t given up on 2021 Wood Memorial winner Bourbonic. The deep closer heads into the Salvatore Mile off one of the worst races of its life. Grade 3 Greenwood Cup winner Ridin With Biden is also coming off a terrible race.

Because the two most well known runners head into the Salvatore in terrible form, the door could open for Jerry Hollendorfer’s Antigravity, and Petulante, from the Victor Barboza barn to grab the win. Twisted Ride and Octane will also run.

Good Night Olive, the Chad Brown trained monster of a mare, had won 3 straight Grade 1 races, including the BC Filly & Mare Sprint, before finishing third in the Grade 1 Derby City Distaff in her last.

Horseplayers project to make Good Night Olive the chalk to win the Bed o’ Roses. Second choice will be Steve Asmussen trained Wicked Halo, which finished in front of Good Night Olive in the Derby City. Connections for Tarabi, Dr. B, Beguine, and Caramel Swirl plan on entering.

A full field of twelve may go in the Grade 3 San Juan Capistrano. No doubt, Richard Mandella trained Planetario and Offlee Naughty will attract the most action.

Offlee Naughty, from the Mike McCarthy barn, won the Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes in the last. The San Luis Rey was Offlee Naughty’s third straight victory and second straight graded race win.

Planetario finished second in the San Luis Rey. Others expected to attract action include Queen Ofthe Temple, Foreign Relations, and Opry. Among the other contenders, Foreign Relations may go off second choice ahead of Planetario.
