Mariners’ Bryce Miller vs Houston Astros

The 25 year old has been strong on the season. Miller is 3-1 on the season with a 1.85 earned run average. Miller will get two starts on the season. The first is going to be a major challenge, as he takes on the Atlanta Braves. The second should come over the weekend against a divisional foe. 

The Mariners are on the road at the Houston Astros. Miller will look to use his ability to strike out batters to his advantage. He has 29 in 25.1 innings thrown this season. Two offenses that can rake, but also two opportunities to show he is one of the best pitchers 25 and under in the league.

Minnesota’s Joe Ryan vs Chicago White Sox

Joe Ryan is going to get two starts, and the first one is against the worst team in baseball, and the second one is at home. Ryan will face the Red Sox over the weekend. Ryan has been snakebitten a bit this season with an 0-1 record, but has a low ERA and has 38 strikeouts on the season. He gets a chance to go against two teams he can beat, and that should help his numbers. Look for a big week for the 27 year old from California.

St. Louis’ Steven Matz vs Detroit Tigers

Matz is another that will get two starts for the Cardinals next week. Both are favorable matchups for the lefthander. He will get the Detroit Tigers on the road on Monday and the Chicago White Sox at home on Sunday. Detroit has been better, but it is still a lineup that Matz can get through and slow down. 

The Cardinals seemingly are playing better baseball with a win in the series finale against Arizona and two on the road at the Mets.  The 32 year old lefthander has thrown 24.1 innings, and struck out 16 batters on the season. If he can keep the ball down, he may be able to grab two wins next week.

Detroit’s Jack Flaherty vs St. Louis Cardinals

The right hander will get his first chance to face his old teammates. Flaherty was with the Cardinals a season ago, before being shipped to Baltimore. Now, inm Detroit, and he is looking for his first win of the season. The righthander is 0-1 with a 4.44 earned run average. He is still an elite strikeout pitcher with 36 in 29.1 innings thrown. He will face Kyle Gibson and the St. Louis Cardinals at home. Look for Flaherty to use his nasty stuff and keep the Cardinals offense at bay on Tuesday.

Philadelphia’ Zack Wheeler vs Los Angeles Angels

Wheeler has made six starts on the season, and holds a 2-3 record. His ERA is down under 2.00 on the season. The righthander has been a strikeout machine for the Phillies with 46 punch outs to just 11 walks on the season. 

In his last start, he struck out 8 batters against the Reds. He has struck out 10+ twice this season. Wheeler gets a chance to face a team he has not seen much of, as Mike Trout and the Angels host the Phillies on Tuesday. It’s always fun to see Wheeler throw, and this will be no exception.
