Friday’s Pitching Matchup

Dane Dunning will take the mound for the Texas Rangers on Friday. Dunning has been really good this season. He is 6-1 on the season, with a 2.78 earned run average. Dunning has struck out just 39 batters in 64.2 innings, but walked just 19. Dunning is getting the job done with weak contact and timely outs. Luis Severino will throw for the Yankees on Friday. Severino has gotten off to a slow start this season.  The 29-year-old has thrown 30 innings this season, and is 0-2 with a 6.30 earned run average.

Saturday – First of Two Day Games

On Saturday afternoon, Jon Gray will pitch for the Texas Rangers. The 31-year-old is 6-2 on the season with a 2.96 earned run average. He will take on Clarke Schmidt of the New York Yankees. Schmidt is coming off an outing against the Red Sox, where he allowed 5 hits and 2 runs over 4.2 innings. The 27-year-old is 2-6 on the season with a 4.65 ERA.

Weekend Finale on Sunday

Sunday afternoon will feature a pair of veterans. Andrew Heaney will toss for the Rangers, while Gerrit Cole will go for the Yankees. Heaney is 5-4 on the season, with a 3.98 earned run average. The 32-year-old has struck out 76 batters on the season. For Cole,  he is coming off a strong outing against the Mariners, where he struck out 8 over 7.1 innings. Cole has struck out 22 batters over his last three starts, spanning 19.1 innings.

Getting these two teams together will show off plenty of offensive firepowers. The Texas Rangers are first in all of Major League Baseball in runs scored and batting average. The Rangers are getting quality production up and down their lineup. Adolis Garcia leads the team with 16 homeruns, which is one more than Josh Jung, who went deep Monday over the White Sox.The Rangers got homeruns from youngster Ezequiel Duran, and also Jonah Heim in the win on Wednesday over Chicago. Duran now has 9, and Heim with 10 on the season.

The Yankees are without their top slugger Aaron Judge. Judge is expected back, but recently had a PRP injection done to his toe. The slugger still leads the team in homeruns and runs batted in, despite missing time. Judge has 19 bombs and drove in 40. Anthony Rizzo leads the team with a .270 batting average.

Fun Baseball Series over the Weekend

This should be a fun series of baseball over the weekend. This is also a potential postseason series, as the Rangers look to bet set to head to the postseason. It’s going to be tougher for the Yankees, but this is a postseason roster. Look for a fun series, and despite good pitching on the hill, expect a bunch of offense.
