MLB News & Rumors: NY Yankees Interested In JaCoby Jones, Franmil Reyes in A 10-Day IL & More

Baseball fans and pundits are generally in agreement that you shouldn’t read too much into how a team is doing until after the Memorial Day weekend. By that point, every team will have played around 50 games, which is more than enough to get an idea of what they are all about. That weekend is now upon us, and we are seeing teams making moves to try and strengthen their squad or plug holes left open by injuries. A lot of what we see at this time of year is about those very things, so let’s take a look at the latest news and rumors in the world of MLB and then you can continue betting against their MLB odds.

Latest 2021 MLB Betting News & Rumors May 25th Edition

One team that is very much in the market for a trade is the New York Yankees. They are on a positive run of form right now, winning 6 in a row, but they are also on the lookout for a replacement for Aaron Hicks, who is done for the season. Rumor has it that they are looking at JaCoby Jones of the Detroit Tigers, as his salary, which sits around $2.5 million, would not affect their potential salary tax issues. The Tigers have just demoted Jones to Triple A after a rough start to the season, but they continue to talk him up, which could be nothing more than a trade ploy.

With the Toronto Blue Jays in a bit of a slump at the moment, they are looking for some sort of spark to get back into the divisional race, where they are now 5 ½ games off the pace. Word has it that the spark will come in the form of bringing up pitching prospect Alex Manoah from Triple A. The pitcher, who was drafted in 2019, has been spectacular this season and is predicted to make his first big league start on Wednesday night against the New York Yankees.

The Cleveland Guardians are very much in the hint for the AL Central crown, but they have been forced into making a roster move this week after losing Franmil Reyes to injury. Initially, the Indians had him on the 10-day IL, but it now looks as though he will be out of action for 5-7 weeks. That is a blow to be sure, but the Indians have decided to bring up Owen Miller from Triple A. Miller is a top prospect and had been lighting it up down in the farm, hitting over .400 to this point in the season.

A season that started well for the Baltimore Orioles has quickly fallen apart, as they are now down in the cellar of the AL East and seeing injuries begin to mount up. The latest injury blow sees Orioles first baseman and DH Chris Davis ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hip injury. Davis underwent arthroscopic surgery for the issue, and while it went well, the recovery time is usually around the 4-5-month mark. He will join Richie Martin, who could be out anywhere from 8-12 weeks with his left wrist injury.
