As we head down the homestretch of the MLB regular season, the battle for playoff spots is heating up dramatically. A few spots have already been filled, but there are a few races that are going to go all the way down to the wire, which puts pressure on the pitchers who will make starts between now and the end of the season. Of course, it doesn’t all fall on the pitchers, as making the playoffs is very much a team effort, but it all begins with the guys on the mound. With that in mind, we are going to take our weekly look at the pitchers who might make a difference over the next few days to consider in your MLB betting, so let’s get to it.

This could well be the week where we see the San Diego Padres officially eliminated from playoff contention, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still wager on them. The Tuesday game against the Colorado Rockies is the one that jumps out to me, as they have Blake Snell set to start this one. Snell is 14-9 overall and has an ERA of 2.43. Of those 14 wins, 9 have come at home, which is just one more reason to play Snell on Tuesday night. The Padres have won in each of his last 4 starts.

The Dodgers have already punched their playoff ticket, but they will not want to take their foot off the gas, as the goal is always to go into the postseason on a good run of form. They have a definite shot at keeping the wins coming on Wednesday night, with Miller set to get the start against the Detroit Tigers. Miller has been fantastic this season, posting a 10-3 record, although his ERA is a little on the high side at 4.02. Miller has gone 5-2 at home and he has won 3 of his last 4 starts.

Detroit Tigers | #29

While it’s definitely a case of too little too late, the Detroit Tigers are finishing the season strong, coming into this week on a 4-game win streak. Speaking of winning games, you have to talk about what Skubal has done of late, as he has won all 3 of his starts this month, giving up just 3 ER during that 3-game stretch. With that run of form, he is now 6-3 this season with an ERA of 3.25, a number that has been dropping steadily over his last 5 outings. I like him to improve that number again with a solid showing against the As on Thursday night.

Brandon Woodruff

Milwaukee Brewers | #53

The Brewers are very close to clinching the NL Central and the playoff spot that comes with that feat. They are finishing the season strong, winning 7 of their last 10 games heading into this week. Friday night will see them hit the road for a series in Miami, with Woodruff set to take the mound on Friday night. Woodruff has been nothing short of brilliant in the month of September, making 3 starts and surrendering just 1 ER, which took his record to 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA. He is 2-0 in road games this season and could well improve on that in his next start.
