Ohio State vs Nebraska 2019 College Football Week 5 Lines, Game Info & Prediction

Written by on September 27, 2019

As we head into Week 5 of the college football season, we have now seen enough of the top teams to have a decent idea of who might be up to the task of competing for a national championship. That said, we are now entering the part of the season when the conference games start to come with stunning frequency. This is where seasons are won and lost, with playoff hopes very often dashed by a defeat to a conference rival. The Michigan Wolverines losing to Wisconsin last week provided a bit of a shake-up in the Big Ten, with a lot of people now believing that the Ohio State Buckeyes now have a clear path to a conference championship and a trip to the playoffs.

Things seldom work out as planned, though, which is why the Buckeyes cannot afford to take their foot off the gas when they head into Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers on Saturday night. Ohio State is in as an 18-point road favorite, with the point total set at 66 ½. Does this one have the potential to be a slip-up type of game for the Buckeyes?

Why bet on the Ohio State Buckeyes?

The Ohio State Buckeyes appear to have made a brilliant move in nabbing QB Justin Fields off the transfer portal in the offseason. The former Georgia Bulldog 5-star recruit has been nothing short of spectacular, throwing for 13 TD passes and running in for 4 more in a glorious start to his time with the Buckeyes.

He is going to have some tougher games ahead of him, though, so this will be a goof test for Fields and the rest of the Ohio State team, as this is not going to be a walk in the park. Over the last 10 games, the Buckeyes have been perfect, winning by an average of a little over 25 PPG during that run. They are 17-3 in their last 20 trips away from home and are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last 5 meetings with the Cornhuskers.

Why bet on the Nebraska Cornhuskers?

It became very clear last season that Scott Frost was going to have a job on his hands in getting this program turned around. It has certainly been a better start to this season, with Nebraska coming into Week 5 with a 3-1 record and perhaps a little unfortunate not to be a perfect 4-0 after losing a close one to Colorado.

Ohio State vs Nebraska should be an easy one for the Buckeyes.

While everyone is sure to be looking to Ohio State to win this one, let’s not forget that Nebraska are winners of 6 in a row in their own building. They are also a very respectable 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games versus Big Ten opponents. On the downside, they are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games played in the month of September.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Ohio State vs Nebraska

While this may prove to be a tougher game for the Buckeyes than previous games this season, you cannot deny that this is a team on a roll. The offense is firing on all cylinders, which is why I like them to pull away and cover the spread.

Score: Ohio State Buckeyes 48 – Nebraska Cornhuskers 28
