Football NCAA – Top 25 Analysis and betting opportunities

Week 6 of the College Football Season has some great games scheduled. After last week’s games, we’ve seen quite a bit of movement in the AP Top 25 Poll. Let’s take a look at this week’s top 10 teams and give a brief analysis, and we may even give you some NCAA betting tips as well.

Top 10

Alabama and Georgia stayed in the top two spots of this week’s poll. Both looked dominant in their victories over ranked opponents. Alabama takes a trip to Texas A&M this week, while Georgia will have a tough one at Auburn.

As for the #3 and #4 team, they’ll face off this weekend in Iowa City, as the third-rated Hawkeyes take on #4 Penn State. Iowa has one of the best run defenses in the country, while Penn State has a very good aerial attack. Both of these teams have beaten two ranked opponents this season. The winner of this game solidifies their spot in the poll, and increases their chances of earning a playoff berth.

We welcome the Cincinnati Bearcats to the Top 5. After going into South Bend and defeating Notre Dame, the Bearcats put the nation on notice that they’re a legitimate playoff contender. The hard part of their schedule is done, so now they need to make it through the AAC schedule without losing a game. This defense could give any team in the country fits.

The Sooners of Oklahoma come in at #6. Even though it’s not pretty, they keep on winning. The winners of 13 straight head to Dallas this weekend for the Red River Shootout against Texas. Oklahoma needs this one to stay in contention for a playoff spot.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are seventh in this week’s poll. The Buckeyes offense is rolling, piling up a ton of yards, along with a ton of points. They dismantled Rutgers last weekend by a score of 52-13. Next up is a date with Maryland. The Buckeyes are a 19.5-point favorite in this one, and we think that they beat the Terps and cover the spread.

The Oregon Ducks dropped from third to eighth after losing in overtime to Stanford. The #9 team this week is the Michigan Wolverines. Jim Harbaugh may finally have a team that can win the Big 10. The Wolverines defense is one of the top units in the country. They’ll travel to Lincoln this weekend to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Wolverines are only a 3.5-point favorite against the Huskers. The oddsmakers think that Nebraska is improving, and that Harbaugh’s crew will be on upset alert. We think they win this one and win by a touchdown, thus covering the spread.

To round out the Top 10, we have the BYU Cougars. Last week’s 13th-ranked team climbed into the Top 10 after defeating Utah State. They have a huge game this weekend against Boise State. BYU has played a much tougher schedule this season, and they know that they probably can’t make the playoffs, but they could make a New Year’s Day bowl. We’ll see if they can keep things up and move even further up the rankings.
