In their first two matches this year, Guadeloupe played great. Facing the Bahamas on July 3 in a CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualifying match, Guadeloupe scored 2 goals and held the Bahamas to 0. In their second Gold Cup qualifying contest, Guadeloupe beat Guatemala via penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie.
Guadeloupe entered the Gold Cup with momentum. Unfortunately for them, Guadeloupe faced a fired up Los Ticos squad in their first match, falling 1-3 to Costa Rica.
Before facing Suriname in their first Gold Cup game, Jamaica hadn’t played great in a couple of international friendly matches in March and June. On March 25, the U.S. beat Jamaica 4-1. Then in an international friendly versus Serbia on June 7, the Jamaicans drew 1-1.
On July 12 against Suriname, though, the Jamaicans played a great match. The favorite in this beat Suriname 2-0. Guadeloupe should be a better team than Suriname. But that doesn’t mean the underdog can hang with Jamaica. Give the chalk the handicap nod.

From March 24 through June 4, Suriname played like a Gold Cup underdog to watch. The underdog in this match played in three World Cup Qualifying matches and won all three. Suriname beat the Cayman Islands 3-0, they bested Aruba 6-0, and they took down Bermuda 6-0.
Suriname was flying high, but a WC qualifier versus Canada on June 8 brought them back to earth. The Canadians drubbed Suriname 4-0. In their first Gold Cup match, Suriname fell 0-2 to Jamaica.
Costa Rica brought the opposite form into their first Gold Cup match. While Suriname had played like an underdog contender, Costa Rica had played like a team that had no chance to move to the knockout stage.
Los Ticos had lost 4 straight, including an 0-4 defeat to the United States in an international friendly on June 9. Costa Rica bounced back big time in their match against Guadeloupe, dominating their opponents with 3 goals.
Joel Campbell, Ariel Lassiter, Celso Borges scored for Los Ticos. Those three played great as did the entire Costa Rican squad. CR should have no trouble getting past Suriname. Another 3-0 or 3-1 Gold Cup victory for Los Ticos appears to be the likeliest outcome.
