Heading into this season in the English Premier League, the general consensus was that Manchester City would once again be the team to beat.

The early part of the season solidified that belief, but things have changed dramatically over the last few weeks, with City slumping in a big way.

They are now down in 4th, 8 points behind the league leaders, Liverpool, while also having played a game more than the top team.

It is worth remembering, though, that we are not even at the midway point of the season, so there is plenty of time for things to change.

With that in mind, let’s taker a look at Matchday 16 and 4 games that we really like.

The league leaders will look to continue their winning ways at home this weekend, but their matchup against Fulham has all the makings of a tricky one. Liverpool saw their winning streak come to an end last weekend in a 3-3 draw with Newcastle in a game that the leaders looked like they had won late before giving up a last gasp equalizer.

Fulham is sitting down in 10th, but they have only lost 1 of their last 5 games, winning 2 and drawing the other 2. Liverpool has dominated Fulham in previous meetings, and I expect more of the same here.

Nottingham Forest +157 vs Aston Villa +163 Draw +232

The late game on Saturday is a good one, with both of these teams looking to land in one of the European spots. Forest is there right now, sitting in 5th place after a 3-2 win on the road against Manchester United last weekend. Even with that win, Forest still has only 2 wins in their last 5, losing the other 3.

Aston Villa has been a little up and down in league play this season, but they appear to be on an upswing, winning their last 2 games to move up into 6th. Villa won 4-2 the last time they played Forest, but this should be tougher.

In terms of rivalry games, they simply don’t come much bigger than the Manchester derby. We have already spoken about the issues that City have had of late, as they have gone on the slide since losing Rodri to injury. You can bet, though, that they will be up for this one, as they will be looking for revenge on United after losing to them in the FA Cup Final last season.

United are still trying to adapt to life under new manager Ruben Amorim, with results all over the place. I think this one might end in a stalemate.

Chelsea -310 vs Brentford +610 Draw +450

After a couple of seasons looking like a bit of a circus act, Chelsea seems to have settled into a groove and are now the main challenger for Liverpool. Chelsea is scoring goals for fun at this point, winning 4 in a row and netting 14 goals during that run.

Brentford are quietly creeping up the league, picking up 10 points from a possible 15 over their last 5 games. This, though, feels like a game where they could potentially struggle, which is why I am on Chelsea to win again.
