Bet on Champions League Predictions in the Round of 16, Leg 2

We are hurtling toward the end of the season in the major European domestic leagues, which also means that the end to bet on Champions League postseason is now also on the horizon. We are currently in the Round of 16, with the first leg of those matches already in the books.

Some teams already seem to have done enough to book their place in the quarterfinals, but there are several more that are very much hanging in the balance. We are going to quickly break down each game, making predictions about who we believe will move on, after which we will once again talk about who might well win it all.

Barcelona -285 vs Benfica +570 (Draw +460)

UCL Prediction: Barcelona 3-0 Benfica

The Spanish giant head home after picking up a 1-0 win over Benfica in the first leg. That certainly puts Barcelona in the driver’s seat, but they will still want to nab an early goal to make the task for Benfica that much tougher. Barcelona actually had their La Liga game cancelled this past weekend after the unexpected death of the team doctor, so they are probably going to come back hungry to win.

Leverkusen +165 vs Bayern Munich +150 (Draw +242)

I honestly thought that this was going to be a tight affair, but Bayern Munich blew the doors off in the opening leg, winning 3-0 to take a stranglehold on the tie. In my opinion, that is a lead that is just too much to overcome, and while I expect Leverkusen to have a go on their own building, I still believe they are on their way out of the tournament.

Inter -300 vs Feyenoord +700 (Draw +410)

When opening a 2-leg affair away from home, the road team is looking to limit the damage or get a result that put the pressure on the other team in the second leg. For Inter, it was very much a case of job done in the first leg, as they went into the Netherlands and picked up a 2-0 win that all but secures their passage into the final 8. I expect them to have a comfortable night on Tuesday.

Liverpool +125 vs PSG +180 (Draw +275)

UCL Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 PSG

The first leg of this matchup was nothing short of a smash and grab. PSG controlled the game from start to finish, but they ran into the brick wall that is the Liverpool defense before giving up a late goal to fall 1-0 at home. This is still a matchup that is hanging in the balance, but it is tough to imagine letting this lead slip at Anfield.

Lille +155 vs Dortmund +157 (Draw +246)

The Wednesday games open with a matchup that is still very much there for the taking for both teams. You have to think that Lille has the slight edge after picking up a 1-1 draw in Germany in the first leg, but this is by no means a slam dunk, as I think that Dortmund is more than good enough to go on the road and get the win.

Arsenal -250 vs PSV Eindhoven +580 (Draw +380)

It’s not often you see a 2-leg matchup put to bed in the first leg, but that is exactly what happened, with Arsenal heading to the Netherlands and coming away with a 7-1 win. It was one of the most shocking results of the first set of games, so Arsenal can relax a little at home, safe in the knowledge that their work is done.

Aston Villa -171 vs Club Brugge +400 (Draw +320)

This is another one that looks to have been decided in the opening leg. Villa had to go to Belgium to face Brugge last week, but they made things look pretty easy with a 3-1 road win. They should be able to head home and close things out in their own building, but they will not want to concede the first goal and give Brugge some hope.

Atletico Madrid +148 vs Real Madrid +152 (Draw +270)

When we did the preview for the Round of 16, we picked this matchup as potentially being the tightest of the bunch. It was Real Madrid that edged out the win in Leg 1, coming away with a 2-1 win. I expect we will see another close one on Wednesday night, but I also think that the defending champions will do enough to move into the next round.

Which Team Will Go on and Win the Champions League?

There are several teams still in this competition who have won it all in the past, although some did so when it was still known as the European Cup. Football doesn’t care about history, though, as it’s all about what you do now that matters. With that in mind, which of the remaining teams is likely to end the season as the champions of Europe?

It is impossible not to talk about Real Madrid, as they are the most successful team in this tournament, both historically and in recent years. I still think they are not as good as they have been over the past 3-5 years, though, so I question their ability to get the job done. If we are looking at the teams that look the most complete from front to back, you have to talk about Liverpool. I took them to win it from the start, and I am not about to go back on that prediction.
