Real misses out on transferring Mbappe

Earlier this year, even before the transfer window opened, Real Madrid said they were interested in acquiring Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

After PSG transferred Lionel Messi from rival Barcelona for free, Real sent out feelers on what it would take to transfer Mbappe from Paris to Madrid. It turns out, there was no price that Paris Saint-Germain would accept.

If memory serves, the initial rate was 160 million euros. Paris turned that down. So Real came back with something higher. At the end, the money PSG turned down so they could keep Kylian was an astronomical 200 million euros.

Real doesn’t seem worried. Mbappe can sign wherever he wants next summer. In a way, PSG turning down the offer could be a blessing in disguise for one of La Liga’s signature squad.

New look Barcelona holding their own

Many thought Messi flying to Paris signaled the end of Barcelona. So far, Barca has proven the doubters wrong.

After 3 matches, Barcelona has a couple of wins and a draw. The draw happened against rival Athletic Bilbao, a team that beat Barcelona last season when Messi played at Camp Nou.

Bilbao is one of the better teams in the league. There’s no shame drawing with Bilbao, especially since the draw pushed Barca to 7 points, the same amount of points as Atletico and Real.

Not only did Barcelona tie with Bilbao, but they also dominated Juventus in the Trofeo Joan Gamper. Barca beat Juvy 3-0 behind goals from Memphis Depay, Ricard Puig, and Martin Braithwaite.

Depay has 2 goals and an assist in 3 starts. He’s made a huge splash and should continue his fine form throughout the season.

Atletico, Barcelona, Real, and Sevilla all with 7 points

Most agree that the top four teams in the Primera Division are Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Sevilla. So far, all four have shown they have what it takes to win the league.

All four have 7 points after winning twice and drawing once. Although they missed out on transferring Mbappe, a transfer they did complete is proving to be a giant get.

Austrian national team captain David Alaba came over from Bayern Munich. Alaba had 281 appearances with Bayern. Many consider Alaba one of the top defenders in the world.

Alaba gives Real the edge to grab the league title. But a ton of soccer, the entire season, is left to be played. So don’t dump on Real just yet. Wait and see if Atletico, Barcelona, and Sevilla can continue to pressure Madrid.
