Escondido FC vs San Fernando Valley FC

  • When: March 23

It’s difficult to find stats for any United States Open Cup match. But although we lack stats, we can use other information to decide the winner of these matches.

San Fernando Valley player Ronaldo Vasquez started twice for the Dominican Republic in international competitions. Midfielder Fabricio Alvareda played for Deportivo Moron. So he has other professional experience. Alvareda and Vasquez should lead San Fernando to the win.

Soccer Pick: San Fernando Valley FC

Northern Virginia FC vs Lynchburg FC

  • When: March 23

The match happens in Lynchburg. So Lynchburg FC figures to have an edge.

Northern Virginia, though, has the more experienced squad. William Mejia played for the Greenville Triumph in the USL. Eric Calvillo was on El Salvador’s National Team and played for the USL’s El Paso Locomotive.

Brandon Williamson played for Loudon United in the the USL. Calvillo, Mejia, and Williamson should use their competition experience to help Northern Virginia beat Lynchburg.

Soccer Pick: Northern Virginia FC

City Soccer FC vs Miami United FC

  • When: March 23

City Soccer defender Christian Hernandez played for the Las Vegas Lights in the USL. Hernandez has some experience.

So does midfielder Jeff Michaud, who stepped onto the pitch for the USL’s Forward Madison. Overall, though, Miami United appears to have the more talented players

Miami is an international team. Four Italians, two Brazilians, a Chilean, and six Argentinian players make up the roster. If we assume Italy, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina produce better soccer players than the U.S., Miami should win this.

Soccer Pick: Miami United FC

Brockton FC United vs Western Mass Pioneers

  • When: March 23

Rochester New York is a decent USL team. So we shouldn’t look past the fact Antonio Correia plays for Brockton FC.

But Western Mass Pioneers sends talented players to the pitch. Jacob Mannix is a New Hampshire Wildcat, defender Gabriel Ganzer is from Brazil, and 22-year-old Sidney Warren hails from England. Those three players should be the reason Western Mass gets by Brockton.

Soccer Pick: Brockton FC United

Azteca FC vs Tulsa Athletic

  • When: March 23

Tulsa Athletic has a few good players, like 23-year-old Colombian and Tacoma Defiance player Juan Alvarez, but the squad doesn’t show a goalie, any defenders, or forwards.

It appears as if Tulsa Athletic’s entire team is made up of midfielders. That could be a mistake. But without knowing who Tulsa’s goalies and forwards are, they’re difficult to back to win this.

Soccer Pick: Azteca FC

Park City Red Wolves SC vs Las Vegas Legends

  • When: March 23

Las Vegas goalie Javier Gonzalez use to play in the Copa Chilean league. He has experience that could take Las Vegas a long way in this competition.

Maliek Howell recently put on a Jamaican uniform for an international friendly against Peru. Howell didn’t step onto the field, but the experience should serve him well in this tournament.

Park City’s roster boasts players from Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Colombia, New Zealand and the United States. A couple of 17-year-old players are on the roster, midfielder Kevin Jara-Collante and goalie Lukas Tate. If the Park City youngsters step it up, the Red Wolves can beat the Legends.

Soccer Pick: Park City Red Wolves SC
