USL Betting – Championship Highlights, Top Picks, Previews

Written by on August 3, 2020

With the 2020 USL season steamrolling right along, it’s time to find out which teams are in action this coming week and which teams are offering the best chances to cash in against their soccer betting odds. To that end, I’ve got a trio of intriguing matchups squarely in the bullseye. Now, let’s find out where the best betting value lies in all three matchups so you can wager on their USL odds.

2020 USL Championship Betting – Highlights, Top Picks, Previews

Atlanta United 2 (1-3-1) vs. Charleston Battery (2-2-0)

Atlanta is in third place in the group H standings with four points while Charleston is in second place in group H with six points. The United 2 bounced back from their 3-0 shutout loss against the Charleston Battery to get past Miami 4-3 on Wednesday. Following their win over Atlanta last week, Charleston was on the wrong end of a humbling 2-0 shutout loss against Tampa Bay on Friday.

While Charleston clearly isn’t an elite squad and they managed to beat Atlanta United 2 the last time they met, I’m going with the United 2 to get a small measure of revenge in this meeting, mostly out of straight-up revenge. Yes, Atlanta is an uninspiring -4 in goal differential, but Charleston hasn’t exactly been setting the league on fire with their own modest +1 scoring differential mark.

  • Pick: Atlanta 3 Charleston 2
  • When: Wednesday, August 5 at 6:30 PM
  • Where: Fifth Third Bank Stadium

Miami FC (0-2-0) vs. Tampa Bay Rowdies (3-0-2)

Miami is in last place in Group H (-4) while Tampa Bay sits atop the USL standings. Miami has dropped both of its contests so far in falling to St. Louis 4-1 in their opener on March 7 and then ending up on the wrong side of a narrow 4-3 loss against Atlanta on Wednesday in their first game since the hiatus. Conversely, Tampa Bay has yet to be beaten in five matches. The Rowdies have won two straight including a convincing 2-0 win over the Charleston Battery on Friday. With these two rivals having polar opposite goal scoring differential figures with Miami at -4 and Tampa Bay at +4, the Rowdies look like the easy pick to get the win to stay unbeaten.

  • Pick: Tampa Bay 3 Miami 1
  • When: Friday, August 7, 2020 at 6:00 PM
  • Where: Riccardo Silva Stadium

Pittsburgh Riverhounds (3-2-0) vs. NY Red Bulls II (2-2-0)

Pittsburgh is in second place in the group F standings with nine points while New York is in third place in group F with six points. The Riverhounds snapped a two-game skid by smacking Philadelphia around en route to a commanding 4-0 shutout win on Saturday while New York has won two straight including a hard-fought 2-1 win over Pittsburgh on July 26. With Pittsburgh playing at home in this affair and feeling good after smacking Philly around the last time out, I’m going with the Riverhounds to get it done by a lone goal in this affair to extract some revenge for their recent loss against New York.

  • Pick: Pittsburgh 2 New York 1
  • When: Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 6:00 PM
  • Where: Highmark Stadium
