The Belgians are in excellent form, which should give their backers confidence. Belgium is on a 3-match winning streak. On July 8, the Belgians beat Estonia 3-2.

Belgium followed up the 3-2 victory over Estonia with a 3-0 win versus Estonia in the rematch on August 17. Then in their last match before this battle against Italy, Belgium dusted England 3-0.

Although Belgium is playing well, they face the favorite to win the European Volleyball Championship on Monday. Italy doesn’t show any form, but that’s okay.

Setter Simone Giannelli leads the Italians. Giannelli was a part of the 2021 title squad and has 205 winning spikes and 227 kill blocks in just 144 matches. Giannelli and the rest of the loaded Italian side will ensure Italy starts their quest for back-to-back titles with a victory.

Greece vs Israel

Greece, like Belgium dominated their competition to make it to the CEV EuroVolley Championship. On August 13, Greece beat Cyprus 3-0. Then in their next match on August 17, Greece dusted Croatia 3-1.

The Greeks won their last match on August 21. Greece played against Norway and blasted the Norwegians 3 games to 0.

Because of their form, once oddsmakers set a line, there’s a good chance Greece will be the big time favorite. But volleyball bettors shouldn’t write off the Israelis.

Israel doesn’t show a lot of form but this might be the best Israeli side in the past forty years. For the first time since 1971, Israel has qualified for the European Championship.

The Israelis placed seventh place in the European League in 2017. So the seeds for this team have been in place for a while.

Still, even though Israel can win this match, Greece has recency on their edge. The victories over Cyprus, Croatia, and Norway allowed the Greeks to hone their strategy. In what should be a tight match, Greece beats Israel 3 games to 2.

Spain vs Bulgaria

Spain followed a 3-0 victory over Georgia on August 13 with a 3-1 win versus Slovakia on August 17. Then in their last on August 21, Spain beat a solid Hungary side 3-0.

The wins should give the Spanish plenty of confidence heading in to their Monday matchup versus Bulgaria.

But the Bulgarians are a historically good volleyball squad. Bulgaria has finished eleventh in this event in the past couple of European Championships. This season, Bulgaria hopes to finish tenth or better.

For sure, Spain can win this match, but Bulgaria is focused. Give Bulgaria the nod.
