IndyCar PPG 375 Betting, Odds & Analysis for Favorites Drivers

It is still very early in the season in IndyCar, with just one race run to this point. That will change this weekend, as the drivers will be in Texas for the PPG 375. There are some familiar faces sitting in the top spots in the driver standings right now, but they will all be very aware that one race does not a season make. There are a lot of races still to come, so they will all be looking to build some momentum in the early going, picking up points that help keep them in the hunt for a championship all the way to the end. As we have seen before, winning the opening race of the season doesn’t often translate to success at the end, so let’s see a few more races before we start making bold statements. That said, let’s take a look at some drivers who could be in the hunt this weekend, so you can bet against the IndyCar odds.

Marcus Ericsson

Last season, Ericsson managed just 1 win all year, but that one came at the Indianapolis 500, so it was one that we will all certainly remember. Winning just 1 race in a season, though, is not good enough for a driver with World Championship aspirations, so he will have come into this season knowing he needs to do better. He certainly couldn’t have asked for a better start, as Ericsson came out on top in the opening race of the year in St. Petersburg. The question now is whether he can build on that and start gaining the momentum we talked about at the top of this piece. Given that he placed 3rd in this race last season, there is reason to believe he could be a factor.

Josef Newgarden

It was not the best start to the season in St. Petersburg for Newgarden, finishing 17th in that race for the second straight year. Over the last 3 seasons, the opening race of the year has proven to be a tough one for Newgarden, but the fact that he has finished 2nd overall in each of those 4 seasons tells you that one bad race is not an indicator of what he can do. In fact, he bounced back from a poor start last year to win in Texas, so might we see a repeat of that this weekend?

Pato O’Ward

After a 3rd place overall finish in 2021, a lot of race fans had O’Ward in as a likely candidate for the IndyCar Championship. He never was really able to get going, though, winning a pair of races but ultimately finishing 7th overall. Still, there are plenty of fans and racing insiders who believe that 2022 was nothing more than a blip on the radar and that O’Ward will bounce back this season. He made that projection seem possible with a solid run in the opening race of the season, finishing 2nd in St. Petersburg. He won in Texas a couple of years back, so don’t count him out.

Scott Dixon

At 42 years of age, Dixon is at the point where drivers start to think about hanging up the helmet. He is, though, still competitive at this level, and while he has gone 3 full seasons since winning his 6th World Championship, he has finished no worse than 4th overall in the last 3 seasons. He was right there again in the opening race of the year, finishing 3rd in that one. He is a previous winner in Texas, too, so he might well be on the podium again this weekend.
